The photograph shows a crowd of people standing outside the main entrance to the Berlin Hotel as they wait to return back to their rooms after the fire.

The photograph on the reverse side shows a group of firemen "making a quick hitch after open run in Court of Honor. Oct. 8, 1909." This team of firemen and their wagon are surrounded by a large crowd of people and patriotic decorations all around.
