Description: A) Men’s long coat of dark green velvet heavily silk embroidered in carnation(?) floral motif. High standup collar; flap pockets. Embroidered covered buttons. B) Breeches of matching dark green velvet. Bottom bands at hem have matching embroidery.

White shoe

Description: Woman’s shoe of white patterned silk with pleated ruffle on vamp and metal embroidery at toe. Pointed toe, silk binding hand stitched around opening, kitten/Louis heel with wooden(?) support, sole of leather undifferentiated for left/right foot.

Purse

Description: Purse of multicolored Bargello needlepoint. The envelope-style purse is covered in silk embroidery in greens, blues, reds, pinks, black, etc., in the Florentine Bargello, edged in green wool. On one side, under flap, is rectangular section with monogram FH and date 1775 worked in embroidery. Opens to reveal 2 separate compartments, lined in green homespun wool. Silk embroidery is disintegrating to reveal canvas ground.

La fausse magie

Description: This is a ca. [1775] printed copy of the libretto of "La fausse magie" (The false magic), a two-act comic opera by Jean François Marmontel, set to music by Grétry. [The opera was staged for the first time at the Théâtre Français à La Haye, on Thursday, November 30, 1775.] The final scene of act two contains the music of the couplets on pp. 47-48. The library's copy of the libretto is bound with the libretto of M. Anseaume's comic opera, "Le tableau parlant."
