Oral History Interview with Boyd K. Miller, January 21, 2003

Description: Interview with Boyd K. Miller, a draftsman and pilot during World War II. He discusses being drafted out of college and working as an artist and draftsman. Since he studied art in college, he worked on diagrams and charts. He then transferred to the Air Corps to become a pilot and trained in Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Alabama, New York, Georgia, Florida and Texas.

Description: A) Evening dress of red silk brocade with floral motif. Brown fur cuffs on ¾ sleeves. Wide neckline with a V-neckline; full length. Full skirt gathers into waistline seam; front waistline darts; slight trained lining. Center back invisible zipper. B) Contour belt of self fabric. Leather backing. Oval-shaped buckle of clear and brown heavy glass.

Description: Cocktail dress of black synthetic (rayon/nylon) net over pale pink lining. Wide round neckline; sleeveless upper bodice of plain net with 1/2" ruffle trim at neckline and armholes. Main bodice and knee-length flared skirt have black floral embroidery and beads. Center back zipper closure.

Description: Suit of blue felted wool. A). Jacket. Round neckline/collar. Center front hidden button closure under placket; Side seam to arm with pockets along seam. Dolman sleeves with gusset and 2" rolled cuffs. Center back seam. Unlined. Designer's label at center back neckline: "Oscar de la Renta" B). Skirt; a-line; side closure; knee length. 3/4" waistband with left-side zipper with hook-and-bar and hook-and-eye. Lined in gray silk.

Description: Suit of gray-blue soft felted wool. A) Jacket. High V-neckline; center front closure with 5 circular buttons covered with felted wool. Long sleeves. Evening dress with feather details

Description: Evening gown of black loosely pleated net with black beads and sequins scattered throughout. Strapless, fitted bodice. Long, full skirt with diamond shaped clusters of beads and sequins with long, thin black feathers spraying out from the center. Attached underskirt of transparent black stiffened fabric with 7" supported hem and two layers of black net skirts under top skirt. Left side zip closure. Bodice lined in black satin, with boning.
