Oral History Interview with Nellis Verhey, November 30, 2006

Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Nellis Verhey. Verhey joined the Army in April of 1943. He served with G Company, 3rd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. In 1944 they traveled to England. Verhey parachuted into Normandy on D-Day in June and into Belgium during Operation Market Garden in September. Verhey was discharged in December of 1945. After the war ended, he served on Honor Guard duty for both Eisenhower and Truman.

Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Lawrence Sweet. Sweet joined the Navy near the middle of the war. He was 15 years old and lied about his age. Sweet was trained as an aerial gunner and assigned to a TBM on USS Lexington (CV-16). His age was discovered, but he was allowed to stay in the Navy if he agreed to transfer from being an aviator to the deck division. Oral History Interview with Glenn Norwood, November 30, 2016

Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Glenn Norwood. Norwood joined the Army Air Forces in May 1942. He soon joined the 307th Bomb Group as an armorer for B-24s and went to Hawaii. From there, Norwood went with them to Guadalcanal. He flew on one mission as a gunner and was glad to get back to base. Norwood shares several anecdotes about his experiences around B-24s on Guadalcanal, Noemfoor, Wakde, Morotai and other islands. He was discharged in August, 1945.
