TWO WEEKS OF IDLENESS

The Daniel Maker Hill liillics ex-
perienced nn unsuccessful week at
Abilene in the final games of their
1023 season and won only one of six
games.
I'p to tlit time of this fateful trip
the Gnats had been going like a house

immediately proceeding this game
with thr heavy rains tltat made prac-
tice Impossible the team felt the ef-
fects w Ith the exception of the pitch-
ing staff which produced some of
their best delivered games.
In the first game against Simmons
l.c May veteran Hill Hilly mounds-
man allowed only four scratch hits
wlille the Hill Millies gathered about
twice the number but the erratic field-
ing of the Clouts allowed the Cowboy s
to gather two runs uguiust out one
to win.
In the second gumc against Sim-
mons the Cowboy just miturall; xol
to Prashman Cantrell and won eight
to four. Cantrell won the only game
Inter In the week and pitched excel-
lent ball during the whole season but
had an off day.
Pitcher Alexander allowed only Ave
hits in the first game against Abilene
Christian College but the Goats lost
four to two nevertheless
Lc May allowed only six or seven
scratch bits in the second gumc witli
A. C. C. but his team mates couldn't
pull together ami lost by a small score
of three to one.
Young Cantrell turned In n good
game in the first encounter with Mc-
Murruy College and shut them out
with the score four to nine In favor
of Daniel Maker.
In the final game with McMurrny
Alexander pitched n winning game but
erratic fielding gave the game to the

Krrors more errors and lack of
hustle is attributed as the reason for
the teams fullure. This wus especially
noted in certain position the majority
of the team working well.
As a whole considering the entire
season it was very successful and wc
are proud of the team any tcum that
wears the Mlue and White regard-
less. Let's all start working for next
year now and have more material so
that the hustle will be the predom-
inant requisite for making the squad.

lucky enough to get out wtih minor

Everybody's Friend
If the question us to who Is the
schools' best friend should be put to
any of the men who have represented
Daniel Maker on the athletic field
during the past five years you would
receive the same answer from all of
them Dr. Ned Snvder.
And he has certainly been n true
friend. There has been nothing that
he has been able to do that lie hasn't
dour. He hns taken care of our men
the year round and after cw-ry game
he has worked late patching up those
who hud recehed Injuries in the af-
ternoon's play. He has a reputation
for roughness but us he says "A
mun who hasn't the guts to stand a
little rough treatment hasn't the guts
to play on a Daniel Maker team."
There arc other men who have help
ed with their Influence and money.
but in the hearts of the Hill Hilly
athletes the ranking place Is given
to Dr. Ned the man who patches us
