Huntsville shouldn't
hove onother
chonce of LSC
Huntsville had its second chance at the Lone
Star Conference tournament this past weekend
and for the second year in a row drew mediocre
crowds and little attention from the statewide
sports media.
Crowds of less than 500 attended the first three
games of the tournament Saturday and the final
Saturday game between Southwest Texas and
Sam Houston the host school drew only 1500
fans from a Sam Houston student body of more
than 10000. None of the newspapers from Dallas
Fort Worth or Houston covered the event.
In contrast to this when the LSC tournament
was held in Brownwood the crowds were near
capacity for semi-final and final games. Media
representatives from all over the state covered
the tournament. Howard Payne students and
members of the Brownwood community sup-
ported the event which is something the citizens
of Huntsville and the students of Sam Houston
are not doing.
Huntsville is not a basketball town and Brown-
wood is. It's time for a move for the LSC tour-
nament if not to Brownwood then to somewhere
where the tournament will be better ap-
preciated. No endorsements-
just vote for the best-
qualified candidates
Endorsements used to be a big issue on this
campus but last year the candidates for the
three major Student Association offices were
unopposed so endorsements were not necessary.
This year the same situation exists with only one
office being officially contested.
All of the candidates are qualified and have ex-
perience in student government. The best
suggestion the Yellow Jacket can make is for the
student to read the candidate interviews in the
paper and use that as a basis for the decision.
If qualifications past records and future
potential for leadership are used as the f -in-dation
for checking a ballot the student wiL be
the winner. Popularity contests have no place in
student government.
There will also be write-in candidates for the
offices and the student should be aware that
others may be running unofficially for the of-
fices. When voting Tuesday vote for the best-
qualified candidates not the most popular ones.

Senate suspends
standing rules
to allow Bolles to run
Members of Student
Association senate voted
Tuesday night in regular
session to suspend the standing
rules to allow junior David
Bolles to run as a write-in
candidate.
The standing rules say that a
candidate must have attended
two senate meetings prior to the
election and Bolles will have
only attended one. The motion
carried easily. Freshman class
president Frances Dzienowski
has also announced she will be a
write-in candidate for
treasurer and she has attended
the necessary meetings.
In other action Supreme
Court justice Jan Matetzschk
brought up some in-
consistencies in qualifications
for yell leaders as listed in the
constitution. The court denied
one yell leader candidate the
opportunity to run because she
would not have the spec if ied 30
hours necessary. The court also
this day firmly etched on the
mind and everything is
directed toward it.

another point which was un-
clear. The matter of revising
the regulations was sent to the
legislative committee.
Yell leaders were also
discussed by senators Cindy
Jones and Randy Yeakley. The
pair met with Ramon Garcia
assistant to the vice president of
student affairs and cheerleader
sponsor concerning the major
problems facing the yell
leaders. Support for women's
athletics lack of competition
and commitment and financial
problems were the most
pressing Garcia said. Jones
and Yeakley were to meet with
the yell leaders this week and
will report back to senate next
week. Senator Ted Miller
suggested that other schools'
cheerleader constitutions be
investigated as a source of ideas
for Howard Payne's yell
leaders.
