Kersh's Commentary Shows Reality of Halloween
To the Editor:
The article by Luke Kersh in the Oct. 30th paper was not only interesting but
reality. That holiday is evil and should not be practiced by anyone. When I was in
high school I did a research paper on Satanism. According to a police officer at the
Round Rock Police Department that "holiday" is when most Satanists are at work.
More children are abducted on that day than any other day reported in the U.S.
If Dr. Romig was to enroll in Christian Heritage I think she would find out the
reality of who Jesus is and that her remark was not only incorrect that "Jesus was a
party-goer" but almost blasphemous. Let me close that I agree Jesus would participate
with Halloween if he was still on earth in that he would be casting out demons and
warning kids to not knock on strangers' doors because they could be killed from the
candy that could be poisonous or abducted by some psycho.
Look toward God Dr. Romig.

Dear Editor
This letter is being written in response to the letter printed in last weeks paper
concerning the Freshman class and the column written by Kevin Brown. We feel that

HPU Parking Problems Greatly Exaggerated
To the Editor:
This is regarding the letter "Parking Tickets Abuse Rights of Students" in the Nov.
12 1992 issue of The Yellow Jacket. We seem to have a perceived problem of
parking on this campus.
Yes there are spaces that have been taken because of the construction of the Mabee
Student Center which is a welcomed sight on this campus. However we have parking
places on this campus. These available spaces may not be right next to your class or
dorm room but we have parking places.
Talk to students who go to The University of Texas at Austin (50000 students)
Texas Tech University (25000 students) or even Baylor University (12000 students)
and see what they think of the parking. Ladies and gentlemen if walking from the
parking lot by the swimming pool to Winebrenner constitutes a parking problem then
consider having to catch a bus from a campus parking lot or walking at least a half mile
to get to class.
The real problem seems to boil down to organizing one's personal time efficiently
to allow for the few extra minutes needed to locate a parking space walk to class and
still be on time. The fact that someone parks in a "ticketed" space because they will be
late for class is not a problem with the number of parking spaces available but with
personal planning and time management. This is a wonderful university and I know
that the administration is aware of the parking situation and is working to improve it.

Homecoming '92 Ricky Skaggs Concert Great
To the Editor:
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the student body of HPU for making
all of us alumni feel very welcome during this year's Homecoming. Even though HPU
has seen considerable growth during the past few years I am happy to report that the
. spirit of friendliness was still intact and very much evident all over the campus.
The Student Union Board also deserves much credit for the success of
Homecoming '92. When I was SUB president back in 1983-84 1 never would have
even thought about procuring such a nationally known artist for Homecoming as Ricky
Skaggs. It was the consensus among many alumni that similar concerts scheduled
during the Homecoming weekend also would be well received and very likely would
entice more alumni to return to Brownwood for Homecoming. On a more personal
note the Ricky Skaggs concert was one of the best concerts that Brownwood or HPU
has sponsored in recent years.

Feminism Isn't Evil or Cult
To the Editor:
I was saddened by the editorial characterizing the
feminist movement as "evil" and a "cult" composed of
."scorned women." Satirical hyperbole aside the
editorial perpetuated several myths about feminism
which are untrue and demeaning.
According to a 1991 Newsweek article "college-
educated women in 1988 made 59 cents for every dollar
earned by a man." Research in other journals and
government documents reveals that women (who make
up more than 50 percent of the population) are still vastly
underrepresented in government business management
etc. The near-absence of female subjects in medical
research means that women are routinely treated with
drugs and procedures tested on and developed only for
men.
As an adolescent I was discouraged from
participation in science math sports and other "male"
pursuits. I knew that despite stellar grades
recommendations or other qualities I most likely would
be denied entrance into medical or law school. I would
not be allowed sign a contract or establish credit without
a male co-signer. All women regardless of suitability
talents or abilities were expected to force themselves
into the same cookie-cutter mold. Thanks to feminism
some of this changed and my daughters can look
forward to richer fuller lives using the talents God gave
them.
All feminists are not extremists just as all evangelical
Christians are not fundamentalists. We don't hate men
or demand coed restrooms or want women who prefer to
be homemakers pushed unwillingly into the job market.
We simply want our sons and daughters to share the
same rights opportunities and privileges and to judge
each other not by gender or race or age but as unique
children of God each contributing in his or her own
way. Feminism promotes fair and equitable treatment.
As the saying goes: "Feminism is the radical concept
that women are people."

matter how seemingly small contributed to its over-all
success.
