Jackson Swing: music with a message

Students had a nice
change in plans when one of
Howard Payne's homegrown
bands Jackson Swing per-
formed during University
Celebration on January 30.
"The concert was awe-
some they really have a great
message in their music" said
HPU student Randi Crosland.
Another HPU student
Chris Beasley said "They are
one of my favorite bands in
the world."
The concert was a hit
and Phelps chapel was filled
with students rocking out.
The main theme of Jack-
son Swing's music is the love

of Jesus and how it can
change lives.
Brad Miles lead singer
for Jackson Swing said "Our
message is to tell people
about the love of Jesus and
how much He cares about
them."
This can be heard in the
lyrics to their songs which
are mostly written by Miles
and are structured towards
witnessing to non-Christians.
Even so Christians also en-
joy worshipping through
Jackson Swing 's music.
"Our music is second-
ary to the Holy Spirit" said
band member Chad
Edgington.

Spring Revival ended
this Wednesday in Chapel.
Pastor Frankie Rainey led
the college campus through
a series of dynamic sermons
that challenged students to
remain in step with the
Bible's teachings and to stay
sensitive to those that sur-
round us.
"My life message is
framed in Galatians 2:20"
Rainey said. "'I have been
crucified with Christ and I no
longer live but Christ lives in
me and the life which I now
live in the flesh I live by
faith in the Son of God who
loved me and delivered him-
self up for me.' That would
be the message above all
messages that students
looking for fame and fortune;
they are happy to play any-
where that people will listen to
what they have to say. The
musicians in Jackson Swing
really enjoy performing and
sharing God's word whether
it's for 20 people or 200.
Jackson Swing is just
over a year old and consists of
five members: Lead singer
Brad Miles; Rhythm Guitar
James Dunning; Lead Guitar
Chad Edgington; Bass Guitar
Craig Hinkle; and Drums
played by Shannon Hinkle.
The origins of Jackson
Swing come from two other
bands; Eden 's Promise and The

should receive. My hope is
that students would come to
know what it means to have
Jesus living in them and op-
erating through them."
Students responded to
the revival in a positive way;
many turned their eyes in-
ward for a look into what
they needed to change.
"When Dr. Rainey was
speaking of the lies each lie
cut right to my heart"
Sophomore Practical Theol-
ogy major Wes Walls said.
The music led by Pas-
tor Mark Bryant was also
an important part of the wor-
ship during the Spring Re-
vival. Many students were
blessed by his ability to lead
other in song and to accord-
ing to one song "lift His
name on high."

"They (HPU students)
arc the most attentive eager
to worship group" said
Bryant.
Rainey was equally
impressed with the HPU
campus.
"I went to the semi-
nary and began to meet stu-
dents from all over the
country. Every time I met a
Howard Payne student
there was a difference about
them" said Rainey. "There
was difference in their qual-
ity of life."
When asked if h(

well received he replied 4 1
hope so. Several people to'd
me they had been great'y
encouraged. If believers car
gain encouragement then a
revival has taken place."
