this week than in recent woks.
Market opened Monthly with some
higher sales but closed with tho
advance lost. Since then sales
have boon practically on a steady
basis from day to day with possi-
bly some weakposs in 9teers.
Cows continue at a range of price-
20 to HO cents above the lo.v time
about ton duvs ago. Very few-
veal calves are coining on tho
Quarantine side and prices are
unchanged. S.nne bulls sold ut
S1.00 yesterday. Steers have sold
from .f .SO to 0. 25 for weights
from 825 to 075 pounds. One
load of corn fed steers brought
$1.25 this week on Quarantine
side. Cows range above $2.00
now and sales reached .$2.55 for
a top this week. Bulk of cows go
from S2.15 to $2.-10. Light veal
calves bring from $5.50 to $15.25
Sheep trade at Kansas City is
especially healthy just now.
Killing grades of muttons aro
strong lambs steady with last
week and country kinds of sheep
steady with choice feeding lambs
strong. Killing wothors bring up
to $8.S0 lambs $5 00 ewes $2.50
to S8.00.

CARNIVAL NOTHS.
The McCloskoy gold modal of-
fered to tho roper making tho
best time is now worn by Jimmy
Barron.
Tho dust and northor Thursday
afternoon wero diaagroeablo in
the extreme.
Tho Storlim: City band com-
posed of 8oventeon pieces came
over Friday and discoursed some
excellent music for tho carnival
visitors roinaining over to play
for the ball game Saturday. Tho
band is only a year old and does
remarkably well being very
creditable to the littlo city of
Sterling. Thoir uniforms aro
very attractive and their instru-
ments have splendid tones. Throe
young ladies aro included in the
membership.
The niorry-go-round Ferris
wheel knocking machines kuifo
racks prize fight exhibit balloon
and return ball men candy and
peanut vendors wero all hero and
all did a thriving business
The wedding was quite an at-
traction. Messrs. Uantt West
and Stowo aro excollont promo-
tors (for tho othor follow) and
did thoir work well. Judge Davis
olliciated with becoming dignity
and tho occasion piiBsod oil' vory
nicely.
The San Angolo base ball team
mantained its reputation in win-
ning both games from Midlo-
thian. The ollicors and committees of
the Association deserve much
praise for the excellent manner
in which thoy conducted the en-
tertainment. Everything passed
oil" pleasantly and no dissatisfac-
tion lutb boon expressed.
Tho Santa Fo brought over
100 passengers Wednesday the
special carrying U conches and a
baggage car.
Eviry available bed was pressed
into service Wednesday night for
the accommodation of visitors
and some of the vacant business
houses wero converted into sleep-
ing quarters.
A noticouble and commendable
feature was tho fact that no ox-
cessivo charges wero porpotratod
on tho guests not a complaint
being reported m this connection.

keepers in tho roping contests and
gave perfect satisfaction .

exhibit wero vory interesting and
attractive features and wore visit-
ed by largo crowds each day.
Prof. Boyington with his train-
ed mules gave vory entertaining
performances that wore greatly
enjoyed by tho visitors.
Tho grand stand was taxed to
its utmost capacity and no evi-
dence of weakness was shown
Tho San Angolo band furnished
music for tho occasion which fea-
ture was equally as inoritorious as
any of tho carnival.
Tho cowboys' ball Thursday
night was well attended and
greatly enjoyed by those partici-
pating. The best of order prevailed
throughout and but little drunk-
enness and disturbance wero no-
ticeable. Tho tent under which the merry-go-round
performed its achievo-
inentH was torn to shreds by
Thursday's wind.
