You know, its Welting to where
a mail can't' tell a lie, without: i
some body believing it .
Not too long ago, we entered
Dr. Mancille's ' Can you Top this
One" contest at the Lion's, club
and told :i story we ha'd heard on
, the radio that very morning about
' a man and a skunk They seemed
to like it and awarded a prize ..
....for the story .... a package
i of bubble gum .... so we had to
tell about it in this column.
A few weeks later we read in
. a weekly paper printed a hundred
.op*so, miles from here where a
skunk had visited our office.
Then about a month ago we no-
ticed in the Panhandle Press a
story to that effect .... and then
this week we received a marked
copy of the American Press where
it said that the Editor of the As-
permont Star had recently had a
skunk to invade the office
' That'g worse than the
deal we got into about the hairy
tailed 'p°ss"m.

Members of the Aspermont
Volunteer Fire Department are
really on the beam. We cite as a
fair exarr.tple Doyle Rash.
A few mornings ago a little al-
ter four o'clock Doyle was sleep-
ing away when the fire siren start-
ed ringing He jumped out of
the bed in practically nothing flat
grabbed his pants in one hand and
his shirt in the other and started
pulling them on in the dark. He
got his plants on fine but he could
not find the sleeves to his shirty
After fumbling and rushing about '
for several moments to no avail
he turned on the light .... and
found the trouble .... he had
been trying to put on his wife's
skirt.

We liiad occasion to go to Pea-

found the place pretty busy with
activity .... a lot of them were
getting ready to attend the

most useless thing he knows <>t is
to worry labout whether or not it
will niin He says ii' is an an-
nual affair, to need rain alonK ab-
out this time of year, ami there is
no use to fret about it: .... it will
either rain or it won't .... and
when it 'does rain, we are always
glad to see it.

Sheriff's department with it . . . .
Wednesday morning we walked
out of the office to get a cup of
coffee, and as v.e were walking}
down the side walk on our way
hack we saw the deputy sheriff's
car parked right in front of our
•office .... well, we decided to
act smart, and not just walk right
into the trap, so ducked around
the corner, in the l!io|X's that soon
he would decide we had left town,
and leave .... but we waited ar-
ound for a good while .... and
the car stayed r-iPht there. Finally
we slipped around to the back and
peeked in at the back door, and
could see no olle- sitting in the of-
fice with a pair of hand \ail is in
his hands (as we ha'd visioned) so
we eased in and started to work.
Soon we breathed a sigh of relief
