CITY MARSHALL
Mr. George Calhoun Reeves was the first city marshall of Mineola, with
Bill McDonald as deputy.
The following have served in some capacity of law enforcement of this city:
Henry Willingham (uncle to our police chief today), Calip Willingham (Clar-
ence Willingham's father), Will Ray, Clarence Barnett, who was the first
chief of police of the city, Wesley Taylor, Tillman Cage, and Constable Will
Whittle to name a few. Our present police chief is Clarence Willingham who
has held this position for many years. The headquarters for the chief is in the
city hall.
MINEOLA POST OFFICE
The Mineola post office was opened in 1873 in an old wooden box car with
T.L. Scruggs as postmaster.
Later it was moved to Scruggs Drug Store, then to Gus Munzensheimer's
building and next to Mr. Lankford's building on Broad Street.
In 1933, the post office located in the present building on the corner of East
Kilpatrick and N. Pacific Streets. (It was on Pacific that Bob Graham once
lived and had his store and grist mill and that was later owned by Mr. Aaron.)
Various members of the Breen and Lankford families have served as post-
masters here for 53 years.
Prior to the establishment of the local post office, the mail came from Quit-
man.
The postmaster today (1972) is Ulman Bruner with Dan Lingley as assis-
tant.
