BANKS
Mineola has had three banks--the First National, the State Bank, and the
Farmers State Bank. The First National was opened May 1, 1898.
Actually, banking started with Frank and George Cage who operated a pri-
vate bank.
Mr. Teagarden opened the First National Bank which was located where
the Thompson store is now.
Gus Munzensheimer owned and operated a general merchandise store on
the corner where the Chamber of Commerce is located. This building burned
in 1908, leaving a gaping hole in the town until the First National Bank pur-
chased the property and constructed the building in 1912 which the Chamber
of Commerce is housed in. (This property was purchased by the Mineola
Chamber of Commerce after the bank moved to its present location.)
According to Cecil Sims, who worked at the bank in 1913, when Roy Gas-
ton was president, Judge Cates was the first president of the bank.
In the 1930's the Alba Bank merged with the First National here, and later
The State Bank of Mineola did the same. Harry Meredith was president at
that time.LEON B. HOSECK--Mineola Bank president
