MIAMI — The Fidel Castro ro-
{ime has seized nearly 5.5 million
icits of privately owned sugar
land wit'nout compensation in the
past two years, more than half of
it U.S.-owned, it was disclosed.
The figures were in a report
ssued by Capt. Antonio Nunez
imenez, head of the National Ag-
arian Reform Institute, on the
ccasion of the second anniversary
f its establishment. Nunez" re-
port was broadcast by Havana
Radio and monitored here.
The institute was created under
J'retnier Fidel Castro's "fundamen-
tal law" of the land which he
established after revoking the Cu-
ban constitution.
Although Nunez is executive di-
rector, Castro is titular president
of the institute.
Nunez' report said the sugar
lands nationalized totaled 5,346,000
acres, of which 3,102,000 were
American-owned.
