service set
at cemetery
A Memorial Day Service will
be conducted by the VFW
Monday morning. May 29, at 11
o'clock at the Canadian
Cemetery. The Rev. Dinzel
Leonard will deliver the
message.
All veterans are asked to
assemble at 10 o'clock Monday
morning at the VFW Hall, in
uniform. Guy Folley is in
charge of the arrangements for
the annual event.

Climaxing the ceremony will
be the traditional presentation
of the Liske Cup...the award
made each year to the member
Mark Hutson
is honored at
West Texas U.
Mark Hutson of Canadian has
been honored by the West
Texas State University De-
partment of Speech and
Theatre.
Hutson was recognized for
his outstanding contribution to
KWTS, the campus radio
station, in his position as their
year's graduate assistant.
KWTS is the campus FM
station which broadcasts over
91.1 megahertz during the fall
and spring semesters. It is
operated solely by WTSU
students who are supervised by
Paul Matney.
Hutson, a speech graduate, is
the son of Troy H. Hutson of
909 Purcell. Canadian.
of the graduating class judged
"most outstanding" on the basis
of high school records.
This year will mark the 48th
annual presentation of the
coveted trophy. Last year's
winner was Mike Schafer.
Absentee
voting is
underway
Absentee balloting for the
June 3 run off election began
yesterday at the office of
County Clerk Jerry Vandiver.
Absentee voting in the
Democratic Party run-off elec-
tion will continue until next
Wednesday.
Only one contested race is on
the ballot. The candidates for
an unexpired term on the Texas
Railroad Commission are John
PtK'rner and Jerry Sadler.
Poerner is currently serving
on the Commission by appoint-
ment. Sadler, a former Land
Commissioner and unsuccessful
candidate two years ago for a
Railroad Commission post, led
in the first primary but failed to
get a majority in a four-man
race.
Bryna Harris
to be librarian
at Booker
Mrs. Phil (Bryna) Harris,
who has been librarian in
Middle School and Baker School
in Canadian, has been named as
the new Booker High School
Librarian for the 1978-79 school
year.
The appointment was an-
nounced last week by Booker
Supt. Bob Spence.
Mrs. Harris had resigned
from the local school system
because the Harrises are to
move soon to Perryton. Phil
Harris, currently president of
the Canadian Chamber of
Commerce, manages the Cana-
, dian office of Interstate Savings
& Loan, and is scheduled to be
transferred to Interstate's
home offices at Perryton.
Mrs. Harris, a native of
Perryton, has a B.S. degree of
Elementary Education from
Texas Tech and a Master's
degree in Library Science from
the University of Oklahoma.

Baggett home were Mr. and
Mrs. Ronnie Williams of
Petersburg, Doug, Lisa and
Jeremy Baggett of Guthrie and
Lynn, Cindy and Jamie Baggett
of Weatherford, Oklahoma.
