Question:
J noticed that last week
,„ there were 2 pieces of leg-
. islature passed in SGA, Bill
.01-07 F and Resolution 01-
07 F. I am not in SGA and
^.do not understand all the
. terms you use. What is the
difference between a bill
, and a resolution? How
do you come up with the
t names of bills and resolu-
{ tions?
x Answer:
I completely understand
how confusing the ter-
/minology can be. There
are two types of legisla-
tion that can be passed
" through the Student Gov-
' ernment Association, Bills
'and Resolutions. A bill is
best described as a specif-
SHANE HENRY
ic action that SGA wants to
enforce and wants adminis-
tration to recognize. On the
other hand, a resolution is a
recommendation or formal
request made by the SGA to
our administration, Both are
extremely effective ways for
SGA to communicate with
administrators. A piece of
legislation is named by us-
ing a relatively basic for-
mula. First, we determine
if the legislation needs to
be named a bill or resolu-
tion. Once the type of leg-
islation is, determined, we
find a number sequence
that will define that spe-
cific document. The first
two numbers represent
what order the legislation
was passed throughout
the semester. The second
set of numbers repre-
sents the school year in
which the legislation was
passed. And the last part
of a legislations name is a
letter that is determined
by which semester the
document was passed. An
"F" represents fall and an
"S" represents spring,
fP.

LETTER FROM THE AUTHOR
The J-TAC cartoon Betel
Nuts often skirts the edge of
dark humor. Some people
thought it crossed the line
last week. These people were
probably unfamiliar with
80s horror films; the centric
theme of last week's cartoon.
So, let me bring you into the
psyche of the main charac-
ters.
is a
synthesis of Jason Voorhees
from the Friday the 13th film
series and Peppermint Pattie
from'the Peanuts comic strip.
It was both a play on Jason's
lust to kill young camp coun-
selors, one of which was re-
sponsible for his own death,
as well as a play on Snoopy's
crush on Peppermint Pattie-
The Friday the 13 th film
series takes place at a sum-
KENNEtHiRISENDlNE'
mer camp and it is now the
fall. This leaves a void of camp
counselors for the character,
Kristal Lake Stabby to kill in
the comic strip. Stabby's main
motive is revenge for being
drowned by negligent promis-
cuous teenagers. Gloopy tries
to cheer her up with a kiss, but
she is better cheered up by de-
capitating him. '
In my comic strip no one
ever dies, because it is a car-
toon. But there is a dark sense
of humor. Please take this hu-
mor lightly, because it is only
entertainment after all.
The Betel Nuts mafia will
continue to parody classic
and modern horror as well as
Charles Schultz beloved comic
strip, Peanuts. Betel Nuts is both
a homage and pokes fun at these
works.
Keep in mind that I have
nothing but .respect for the
characters that I am parody-
ing which is why I have chosen
them. I believe that imitation is
the highest form of praise.
If you have any questions or
concerns about any of the comic
strips I have created, you may
