greater valuation than that assessed for county and State purposes ;
provided, further that when the county assessor and county collector
are required to assess and collect the taxes of said district they
shall respectively receive one per centum for assessing and collecting
the same.
SEC. 13. When a majority of the board of trustees of said district
prefer to have the taxes of their district assessed by the city
secretary of the city of Mineral Wells, the same shall be assessed and
collected by such city officer and turned over to the treasurer of said
district for which such taxes shall have been collected; provided that
the property of said district, when assessed, by the city secretary, shall
not be assessed at a greater valuation than that assesed for city pur-poses;
provided, further, that when the city secretary is required to
assess and collect the taxes of said district he shall receive not to
exceed two per centum for assessing and not to exceed two percent
for collecting the same, the amount to be determined by the board
of trustees.
SEC. 14. The local maintenance tax heretofore voted by the,
qualified property tax payers in said Mineral Wells Independent
School District as it existed prior to this Act and in the other territory
included in the district herein created, and now in force therein,
is hereby validated and continued in this. district until such time as:
majority of the property tax paying voters of this district shall increase,
diminish or abolish same, as is or may be required under the.
Constitution of the General Laws of this State.
SEC. 15. Any tax voted as provided by the General Laws of this.
State, or under this Act, during the current year 1921 for the main-tenance
of the schools in this district, is hereby made collectible
for the current year 1921, and all subsequent years, and may be
levied, assessed and collected on or before the 31st day of January
after such election, annually as provided by the General Laws of
this State until the property tax paying voters of this district shall
increase, diminish, or abolish same, as is or may be provided, under
the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas.
SEC. 16. That any bonds heretofore issued by the city of Mineral
Wells for school purposes in pursuance of a majority vote of the
property tax payers of said city are hereby validated and the city
commissioners or governing authorities of said city, shall continue to
take care of, pay off and discharge said bonds, and levy, assess, and
collect the taxes provided for when said bonds were voted and issued
just as tho this Act had never become a law..
SEC. 17. The board of trustees shall annually appoint a suitable
person or persons to take the census of all children within the district
entitled to be enrolled and numbered in the scholastic census for the
year (current) to the end that said district shall receive its proportionate
share of all school funds (available) and to make reports
thereof in prescribed form, as now provided by general law, to the
proper State and county authorities. Said person or persons so
appointed to take the census shall receive as compensation for his
or their services to be allowed by said board a sum not in excess of
the amount now allowed by general law for like services.
SEC. 18. The board shall prescribe the necessary rules for the
