A Postolfice Item Corrected.
Ifi tho Issue of Tuesday under the
head of "Not Captious" It was lull
mated that tho Postmaster had used tho
envelope of n delayed letter to scribble
on. After finther Investigation the
I Kiin Is convinced this was an error.
The letter was directed originally to
"W. II. Ilrowdcr hotel clerk San An-
tonio Texas." Letter Carrier Possert
left It at thn Central hotel from where It
was returned August 31st; the envelope
bore tho postolllce dating stamp on the
dates or receiving June 2d and August
31st. Mr llrowder Is a clerk at the Mav-
erick hultl and If tho letter had been so
directed It would have been placed In
the Maverick hotel box. The carrier
should not have left the letter without
Inquiry and thus caused a serious delay.
The hotel clerk should also have sent
the letter back to the postolllce after a
hotel hv the name of llrowder. This
correction Is mnde because on it number
of occasions parties have wanted Post-
master Neweomb "pitched Into" for Just
such alleged violations of duty and
which no doubt would prove to be Just
as uncalled for and frivolous ns the In-
stance rpioted above. Itlght la right
and wrongs no one and the chances aro
that the causo of much complaint comes
from parties who themselves nro at
fault regarding the proper delivery of
their mall.

PROFESSOR BROWN.
A Mooting of Colored Citizens
Held Last Evening.
They Demand the Dismissal ot the Coh
ored Principal of tho Riverside
School-A Committee.
Last evening nt the Itccorder's court
room n meeting of colored clllrens was
held for the purpose of considering the
reappointment of Professor Ilrown ns
principal of the Jtlvcrsldo school. J. II.
Holt called the meeting to order and
stntcd that It had been convened for the
purpose of Investigating the rumors In
circulation' regarding the above named
preceptor and to show their dissatisfac-
tion at his reappointment.
A permanent chairman was then ap-
pointed Hov. Mack llenson being nomi-
nated and elected and Ilev J. W. Carr
fullllllng the olllce of sccrctnrj'.
Tho Chairman on taking the chair
he said he felt somewhat honored nt being
chosen ns Chairman the object having
been started by Mr. Holt. They wero
now prepared to hear whatever might be
best lie regarded tho meeting ns one
of vnst importance and was one of dell-
eatn nature. They wero not there to ar-
raign anyone or to talk or the past the
City Council which had the appointing
power in principals as well as teacliers
nflcr their due examination nnd Mr.
Ilrown was reappointed and Miss Ida
Harris. This was dlsallsraclory lo tho
community and the patrons of that
school and they as citizens thought best
to conic together nnd see what Is tho
best thing to do In tho matter.
Holt then asked If Professor Ilrown
wns a mnrrlod man.

acter they set a precedent for our
children and aimed very low.
liavissaiu It secmeu tney Hit a deli-
cacy of entering Into details of the nf-
falr. As rumor has It It goes like wild
lire. Ho believed that the action of the
School Hoard had developed thefact and
they knew nothing to the contrary that
.nr. jirown ami tun jiarris were mar-
ried. The only objection he had to the
marriage Is that the fact was only devel
oped since' the rumor has existed. If
ilrown nnu ma Harris were married
certainly this community Ilrown lining
the position he wns at present this com-
miinltj' ns ho understood It has certain-
ly been mlstreattd; they should havo
known about this marriage; there was
no necessity for such nrolound secreov.
The School Jlonrd said they wero mar

people did not think so. Ilrown being

School Hoard was not sulllclent to satis-

thought they snould petition the Coun-

they bad the moral Interest of the people

David Williams 'made a motion that
the chair should appoint a committee to

The Chair No sir; It Is never too late
to do goou.
ltlchardson Thank you.
Wilson said he thought It was a kind
of slander to treat Professor Ilrown the
way tbev wero doing and he did not
think they were doing him Justice to
make any petition to place before the
City Council and did not think the
meeting large enough.
Holt opposed Wilson's views stating
that he considered the sentiment of the
colored people wns represented nt the
nresent meeting.

ltlchardson Yes that Is not knocking
