MEMORIAL-J. DAN STRUVE
H. C. R. No. 4
WHEREAS, Citizens of San Antonio and the entire State of Texas suf-
fered a great loss with the untimely death of former State Representative
J. Dan Struve on March 22, 1972, at the age of 40; and
WHEREAS, An accomplished attorney originally from Campbellton,
Texas, he had served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives
of the 57th Legislature, representing the counties of Atascosa, Frio, La-
Salle and Live Oak; and
WHEREAS, An attorney for the Texas Civil Liberties Union, Mr.
Struve has been given major credit for pursuing to a successful conclu-
sion a federal court case which struck down portions of the Texas vagran-
cy law as unconstitutional; and
WHEREAS, He was once praised by a colleague, Maury Maverick, Jr.,
for his tireless efforts on behalf of the "poor, the unfortunate, helpless
and those dealing with unpopular causes"; and
WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara H. Struve, and four
children, Lee, Daniel, Chris, and Holly Struve, of San Antonio; his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Struve of Campbellton; his brother, Dr. C. A.
Struve of Corpus Christi; and his two sisters, Mrs. Bill Powell of Camp-
bellton and Mrs. Ed Milone of Camp LeJeune, North Carolina; he will be
greatly missed by his friends and relatives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State of Texas, the
Senate concurring, That the 62nd Legislature, 2nd Called Session, honor
the memory of J. Dan Struve and extend deep sympathy to the members
of his family on their great loss; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of appreciation for his life of
service from the Texas Legislature.
