Academic UIL competitors going to regional

Dr. Elaine Weidman is the Artist of the Month for
April at the County-City Library. She has lived in
Sweetwater for over 13 years with her husband, Rick
Weidman who teaches at Sweetwater ISD.
)r. Weidman and her husband originally met in
Albuquerque, NM and say that fell in love at first
sight. Six months later they were married, and have
been married for over 17 years now. Mr. Weidman,
mentioned that Dr. Weidman was a former Ms.
Alabama in her younger years. Dr. Weidman retired
after 35 years from her profession as an anesthetist.
She also has her PhD in Health Care Management.
Just before retiring Dr. Weidman had been min-
gling with oil paints. She firsl tried acrylics, but
noted, They tend to dry quickly, which makes it
more difficult to work wit
So she gave oil paints a try, and has been happy
ever since. She has had no art training and is se -
taught. She also sells her paintings.
Dr. Weidman's art will be on display throughout the
month of April The hours for the ibrary are Monday
from 1-6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

declare Sunday, April 17 "A
Day of Prayer "for Rain".
The proclamation was
read by Mayor Wortham
at the recent City
Commission meeting on
Tuesday morning, April
12 at City Hall. Wortham
mentioned that the decla-
ration came by the request
of the San Angelo diocese

Elizabeth Guelker spoke
to Lions recently when
she told how her family
escaped the Communist
take-over in Russia and
managed to get to Canada
and finally the United
States of America.
Her parents lived in
Russia, even farmed in
Siberia, and spoke fluent
Russian. When the Czar
fell in 1918, the family
began a journey to escape
anc go where they could
live, work and worship as
they pleased.
Through their hard work
and determination, the
parents got to Germany
where they had to learn a
new language. The family
was able to escape Hitle s
regime when they gained
passage to Canada The

were born there.
