THE GYPSY SIMON SMITH MEETINGS
A Message from the Pastor
OUR CHURCH is passing through one of the most blessed seasons in its
0 history. Are our own people getting the fullest possible benefit from it?
'-,
Gypsy Simon Smith is benefitting thousands of people; yet we have missed
some of our own people, whom we have had on our hearts in prayer.
No family of men could go on for years, as the Gypsy Smith family have
done, with ever deepening influence, just because they happened to be gypsies.
The novelty of that has gone years ago for most people. The curious have
been satisfied in our meetings here. They have seen and heard the gypsy.
But the meetings are getting' deeper and more vital every day. This is a great
man of God we have with us; he is dealing with the ever wondrous Gospel of
Jesus Christ. That never grows old. Having heard and studied many preachers
for many years, I say that I have never known a man whom I should prefer to
have in our Church just now. If his work cannot revive all of us, what can?
While thousands are being wonderfully helped, must some of our very own
people have at last to say "the harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we
are not saved?"
This is no vaudeville enterprise nor money-making scheme that we are in.
1 have never seen a man who talks less, or thinks less, of money than Mr.
Smith does. He is not here to reap a harvest of dollars. He laid aside a lucrative
business years ago to serve the Lord in this way. But what does that
matter to you? Are you saved, or lost? Is your life dirty, or clean? Are
your children on the way to success and happiness, or sin and sorrow? Does
your home have Christ in it? Are you afraid of life with its un-numbered
years ahead, with the incident of death between two worlds? Or can you say:
"Now, unafraid, I am fain to face the vast sweet visage of space?" Are you
3S.~ weary of argument about religion, till you feel uncertain about everything that
matters most? "O how sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His word."
Come out of the desert of vain desire and groping into the garden of His love.
Rest in Him. Begin to live as though His words were true. That is living,
saving faith.
CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR TONIGHT AT 7 O'CLOCK. Young People, we
hope you will come and worship with us at this time. Interesting program.
Subject: "Cross-Bearing."
THE OFFICERS OF THE CHURCH will not meet at their regular time
tomorrow evening on account of the Gypsy Smith Revival Services.
SUNDAY SCHOOL NOTES. Today is the last Sunday in our church year
and we feel it has been a very successful year in our Sunday School. Ourt
average attendance for the year up to date has been 200 and our offerings
$15.00, a Sunday without "Special-Day" offerings. We feel that God's spirit has
been guiding us in His work here. The officers and teachers have been most
faithful and have served untiringly.
THE LADIES' BIBLE CLASS elected the following officers to serve for
the coming year at their last meeting: Mrs. P. K. Rector, President; Mrs.
0. O. Mitchell, Vice-President; Mrs. R. H. Jefferies, Secretary; Mrs. A. C.
Miller, Secretary-Treasurer.
THE WOMAN'S AUXILIARY will continue their schedule of meetings
the same as last year: Inspirational meeting, first Tuesday; Circle meetings,
second Tuesday, Business Meeting, third Tuesday of every month.
WE ARE HAPPY to have one of our own young ladies, Miss Margaret Bell,
as our pianist for the revival services. She is one of our faithful workers, who
is always ready to do her part well.
