Members of Lambda Chi
Alpha, an international social fra-
ternity, took turns spending 52
hours perched on an 8-foot
teeter-totter from April 11-13,
raising almost $700 for food to
be donated to Tarrant area food
banks.
This is the second year the
event has been held on campus
by the Wesleyan chapter.
Laith Sando, vice-president
and Teeter-Totterathon organizer,
said he was "disappointed" by
the campus response this year as
compared to last year's.
"I don't know. Maybe peo-
ple were 'donated out' after Sept.
11," he said. "We did have stu-
dents, staff and faculty who did
donate. We just didn't get the fac-
ulty support we had hoped for."
Sando said Range
Resources, a corporate sponsor
was the largest single contributor,
giving $300.
Every dollar raised, means
13 pounds of food which will
feed the poor of Tarrant County.
The 52-hour Teeter-
Totterathon raised enough money
to donate 9,100 pounds of food.
"Last year, [the entire inter-
national fraternity] broke a per-
sonal record. This year, our hope
is to raise 12 million pounds of
food," said Sando.
"I think we did pretty good
considering how low our mem-
bership numbers are right now."
Members set up a pup tent,
lights and a sound system near
the teeter-totter, so that they
could take turns sleeping and the
motion never stopped.
Rick Ahlgren, a senior busi-
ness major, spent 12 hours on the
teeter-totter, the most of any
member.
Several members braved the
sudden rainstorms that hit on
April 13.
"The ladies of Gamma Phi
Beta service sorority helped too,"
said Sando. "It was very much a
group effort."

or below most private schools in the area."
Acccording to Bleibdrey, students taking
advantage of the block tuition plan will see the
most favorable comparison between Wesleyan and
other institutions.
"SMU's rate for last year, before increase, is
$18,450. University of Dallas' rate last year, again
before this year's increase, is $15,824. When com-
pared with the new Wesleyan rate of $10,306, you
can see what a bargain we are," he said.
Hourly tuition rates for graduate programs,
pending approval, have also been set. The MBA
program tuition will be $350 per hour; the law
school program will be $585 per hour; the health
science program will be $460 per hour, and the
education program will be $250 per hour.
"The incremental funds from a rate increase
are not budgeted or earmarked seperately from the
balance of other revenues," said Bleibdrey. "All
revenue is budgeted for continuing operations of
the university, including faculty and staff salaries,
normal operating expenses, student services and
maintenance and improvement of our physical
facilities."
