yesterday at Sadowski Field
with Lt. Gen. Beverley E.
Powell as host.
Goodwin was presented the
Distinguished Service Medal
during the ceremony.

The brigadier general leaves
a post which he assumed only
eight months ago but he also
leaves behind him a record
of excellence and masterful
soldiering that few men have
equalled.

Hospital Sunday. Performances are scheduled to
begin around 2 p.m. and continue until approxi

THE CLYDESDALE eight-horse hitch will
perform a series of intricate maneuvers today at
p.m. at Prichard Stadium. Following that perfor
mance the team will go to Darnall Army Hospital
to perform for patients.
SEVERAL^VACANCIES"exist for ROTC and
National Guard advisors. Twenty advisors are
needed for duty on college campuses in Texas
Louisiana New Mexico Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Sixteen advisory personnel are needed for duty
in several southwestern cities including Dallas
Oklahoma City Santa Fe Austin and Albuquer
que. Applications should be submitted in accor
dance with AR 611-50.
THE MONTHLY ORIENTATION for newly
arrived personnel will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m.
in Theater 1. Attendance by military sponsors
who have or who contemplate having dependents
at Ft. Hood or in the immediate vicinity is man
datory. In addition adult dependents are encour
aged to attend an orientation as soon as convient
after arrived.

tion. Blood takes oxygen to

and removes carbon dioxide
as a waste product. It's a
normal function for most of
us but not for Philip and Ker
ry Parsons of Copperas Cove.

Hemophilia is a hereditary
condition in which the blood
falls to clot quickly enough

Much research is being con
ducted on this disease but
right now ?*?e only way to
treat an injured hemophiliac
is by replacing the lost blood.
Not only is this expensive but
also it is quite hard to obtain

Parsons who is employed at
Ft. Hood by the post exchange
as a barber has reved upon
the Carter Blood Center of
Fort Worth since 1961. for the
blood needed for his two
sons. Right now he is indebted
to the center for over 200 pints
of blood. He is now faced with

ing a reserve for his sons'
future use.
Through cooperation with
Darnall Army Hospital and
the Carter Blood Center he
will get a chance to pay back
his debt and maybe put some
blood in the reserve for fu

mobile blood unit here at Ft.
Hood from 8 a.m. until the
quota of 200 unit pints or more
is met.

are a few requirements that
have to be met before the
children can be registered.
Immunizations Needed Before Registration

munization within the last
three years. All new students
through the third grade must
present evidence of diptheria
immunization within the last
three years.
All students through high
school are required to have
Sabin (oral) poliomyelitis im
munizations.
Although measles (Rubella)
vaccination is not required at
this time it is strongly recom
mended for all grades as Js
Rubella-German measles vac
cine.
Mumps vaccine is recom-

eligible to donate blood per
sons must be from 18 to 60
years of age. Anyone under
21 must have written per
mission from parent or guard
ian and have lived in the Ft.
Hood area at least six months.

the civilians in the Ft. Hood
area for he is greatly indebted
to the blood center. He looks
to the day when his two sons
no longer need the many
transfusuons but right now
medical science is continuing
the search for an answer to
Hemophilia.
If you would like to help a
man and his two sons give
one pint of blood when the
Carter Blood Center unit
comes to Ft. Hood Aug. 10.

returned from Japan to Korea
in early 1955.
After the Korean conflict
and some more educational
opportunities in the United
States he was assigned to
the office of the Assistant
Deputy Director of Plans and
later as representative of the
Office of the Deputy Chief
of Staff for Operations on the
Army Officer Education and
Training Review Board.
Goodwin then joined the
Joint Strategic Plans Group
of the Joint Staff serving the
Col. James A. Grimsley Jr.
2nd Armd. Div. assistant com
mander will be promoted to
brigadier general in a
ceremony at Hell on Wheels
Field tomorrow.
Lt. Gen. Beverley E. Powell

mander has been invited to
pin the stars on Grimsley with
the help of Mrs. Grimsley.
Grimsley will remain in his
position as assistant division
commander. On his postition
Grimsley noted "I consider

where he participated in the
Philippines Guam and
Okinawa Campaigns.
Shortly after the end of the
war Grimsely went on in
active status in the Reserves
until 1948. In July of that
year then Capt. Grimsley
returned to active duty with
5th Inf. Div. at Ft. Jackson.
Two years later he attended
the Infantry School at Ft. Ben
ning and then was assigned
to the 4th Inf. Div. in Ger
