STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS
Have you paid your poll tax?
(Speaking of all males and fe-
males over 21, of course.) The
Student Council is sponsoring a
drive to remind people to pay
their poll taxes. This is election
year and it is the duty of every
eligible person to vote. This is
the only way that we can expect
to maintain our democracy.
Our basketball tournament is
almost over and we'll <have more
sports and competition. The
sophomore and senior girls are
playing the tie off today, Tues-
day. The junlor boys have won
the tournament without ques-
tion by defeating all four oppo-
nents.
MARY BETH CLUB NEWS
The Mary Beth Club had their
first meeting this semester on
Monday. It was called to remind
the members about the play that
is to be presented Thursday, Jan.
24. The play entitled, "A Ques-
tion of Clothes", is a hilarious
comedy in three acts.
Members of the club taking
part are: Audene Fletcher, Gail
Ellis, Tommie Pennington, Mary
Lou Hargrove, Bobbie Lowe, Ce-
cilia Puckett, Lou Mize, Betty
Howard, Nelda Ellison, Barbara
larv Knapp.
We want to see all of you out
to see this wonderful play.

SOPHOMORE NEWS
There were several students
exempt but there were plenty
who took mid-term tests. I'm
sure everyone studied hard for
the tests, though. One can
breathe easier now that tests are
over.
Several students turned (out
for the party but many more
could have been there.
The sophomore girls play the
seniors in a run-off for the in-
tramural basketball trophy to-
day, Tuesday. Here's hoping we
can win that trophy.
"The "annual " ^rair ' hair asked
that we donate $10 for snap-
shots since they didn't think
they could cover the snapshot
pages. We're sure we're going to
i^ive an annual equal to the one
last year.

SPORTS NEWS
The Crosbyton Chiefs were1
dealt a 50-38 defeat at the hands
of Petersburg Friday night. The
game was much closer than the
score indicated, however. The
Chiefs were trailing by only sev-
en points midway in the fourth
quarter. Jerry Mitchell hit 12
points to lead Crosbyton's scor-
ing, while Ronnie Forgus played
a good floor game.
ThP Chiefs play powerful Ab
ernathy at home Friday night.
We would like to urge everyone
to come out and support the
team.
FRESHMAN NEWS
* The cake sale .the freshmen,
had Saturday was fairly success-
ful. All the money did ,not come
from the cakes as many people
donated some money. We are
certainly grateful for the money
which- was donated to this wor-
thy cause, the March of Dimes.
Everyone be sure to donate some
thing to the March of Dimes.
Everyone is trying to get used
to their schedules. They are flip-
py that at least one half- of the
year is over. There is some for-
getfulness and the person shows
up in the wrong class or is wan-
dering down.the hall. Such an
ejcample is Evon Karr.
I would like to remind the
class that all the second semes-
ter duesr are not paid.

JUNIOR NEWS
We are very glad to welcome
Wyanza Stephenson back to the
junior class after a temporary
absence, caused by a slight case
of polio. We are also glad to
have Kenneth Bass in our class
again. However, we sincerely re-
gret the loss of Lovey Jo Grizzle,
who has moved away.
Our Sadie Hawkins gym party
will be held on Feb. 22. Every-
one be sure to come.
Don't forget, the juniors are
stiji-selling candy on Thursdays.
The junior boys are the win-
ners of the basketball " games
that have been played in the
gym at noon. We are really
proud of them. Maybe the girls
will have a chance of winning
the trophjTnext year. ■ _ _
