post graduate course while in Bos-
ton. She baa a brother there who
made the stay more pleasant
Mrs. B. E. Reynolds 2923 Flora
street is attending the National Bap-
tist convention now in session at
New Ark N. J. She left last Sat-
urday Sept. 13.
Mrs. K. W Amos has returned
from Nashville Tenn. While there
she visited friends and relatives.
Miss Clara Young Jeft last Thurs
day for Washington D. C to Join
her parents Prof and Mrs. 8. A.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. J. Norsworthy
and family visited Italy Sunday the
home of two sisters of Mrs. Note-
worthy chicken beans cabbage po-
tatoes butter milk and other pro
ducts of their milk were forced to re-
treat during the brief stay.
Mr. and Mrs. Duncan announces the
marriage of their daughter Kather-
Ine to Mr. Fiorina M. Bacon. The
wedding occurred Wednesday night.

Mutual Benefit Association has Just
returned from Houston where his
District was awarded one of the
prizes in a new business contest.

of the spoils in the late contest

was informed by telegram Monday of
the safe arrival of her daughter Miss
Thelma in Wllbcrforce Ohio. She
left Dallas last Saturday. Miss Dud-
ley arrived in Wilberforce at 8:23
Monday morning she will enter Wil-
berforce University.

has Just returned from an extended
summer tr'.p to Houston Galveston
and Beaumont' She reports having
had a delightful trip. .

BIG ATTENDANCE.
WITH
Public schools were opened Tues-
day morning In Dallas all teachers
present and in their places classi-
fication and enrollment of students
being the order of the day. The
teachers of the Colored schools went
atter their tasks with grim determi
nation and in conclusion were assign
ed to their grades. Student were
sent to draw their text books and
actual work began Wednesday.
The registration - shows an en-
rollment of 1627 In the various Col-
ored schools and 16374 pupils in
the white schools. A grand total of
18001 pupils registered In the
schools of Dallas on the opening day.
The following fllgures were given
out from the Board of Education on
attendance the first day of school:

reported and that a sharp increase
each day in attendance was looked
for.
Prof. J. P. Starks principal of
Frederick Douglass school made no
comment but asserted 421 reported
for enrollment.
All of the teachers met at the Col-
ored high school Monday and received
instructions for the year's work.
