Mrs. L. H. Pearson was called to

school at the First Baptist church
was well attended Sunday. Supt Mll-
ler Is bringing things to past Deacon
W. S. Hale was down from Sulphur
Springs Saturday and Sunday to visit
homo folks and look after business.
Mrs. Arizona Washington returned to
Dallas Saturday night after spending
the summer with her u.
and Mrs. Jack Mitchell. Mr. Henry
Wiley left Sunday night for Ballin-
ger Texas where he accepted a
job in the compress. Mr. J. S. Peters
was in our city Saturday and Sun-
day. The W. H. M. Society of the First
Baptist church gave an entertain-
ment Saturday night in which 59.07
was realized. Mrs. Aedith the pres-
dents motto Is Show Thyself a Pa-
tern of Good Work.

mains of the late Marlon P. Penn
M. D. were performed at a nvwir
-Friday evening September 12th- by
J. vv. weamy pastor in
charge St Paul Methodist 'Episcopal
church. C. M. E. church. Rev. J. F.
Starks pastor of Evening Chapel;
Dr. O. I. Jackson and the Rev. Wm.
Lincoln occupied seats on the rostrum
and made eulogistic remarks upon
the life and character of the man.
After viewing the remains for the
last time the casket was closed the
pall-bearers taking charge loaded the
corpse into the funeral car and the
procession proceeded to the Union
Terminal station.
The body was placed In sT Texas
and Pacino baggage car for Arcadia
La. leaving the city at 7:45.
The remains were interred Sunday
evening. Sept 14..
Dr. Penn was born Oct. 22 1866
at Jefferson Texas attended public
schools there and later entered Wiley
University and graduating there In
1892 for a short while taught school
curtailing his school work to satisfy
his desire in science. Entered Me-
harry Medical College 1898 gradu-
ating in the spring of 1902. He came to
Dallas and began the practice of
medicine and was active in his pro-
fession up to the time of his illness.
He was a member of the following
orders: Oriental Lodge No. 3499
United Order of Odd Fellows Metro-
politan Lodge F. A & A. M. Eman-
uel Lodge K. of P. and New Hope
Lodge No. 12 U. B. of P.
The body was accompanied to Arca-
dia by Mrs. M. P. Penn and mother
and Mrs. W. R. McMillan.
GRICSBT CITES 99 YEARS FOR
ATTEMPTED CRIMINAL AS-
SAIXT ON TWO GIRLS.
Robert Grlgsby 16 years old Ne-
gro boy charged with attempted crim-
inal assault entered a plea of guilty
to the charge Tuesday morning be-
fore Judge R. B. Seay in Criminal
District Court and the Jury fixed his
puniBnment at ninety-nine years in
the penitentiary.
Grlgsby is the toy who stormed
two daughters of W. N. Dockerv.
about three miles from Wllmer on
Sunday afternoon Aug. 31 and point-
ing a pistol at them made an at-
tempt to force them to go into the

the boy in charge a crowd of men
from the vicinity of Wllmer took pos-
session of Grlgsby and threats of
lynching were made.

mark of the rope which was intended
to take his life.
W. N. Dockery testified to facts
connected with his capture of - the
Negro and an admission which he
said Grlgsby made to him In con-
nection with- the Negro's actions.. One
of Mr. Dockery's daughters also of-
fered testimony identifying Grlgsby
and telling of the manner in which
he accosted her and her smaller sis-
ter. F.'H. Pierson testified to the
authenticity of a confession signed
by Grlgsby and in which the boy
admitted stopping the girls and ad-
mitted that he intended to assault
them. The document signed by
Grlgsby was admitted evidence.
Grlgsby sat unmoved throughout
the trial apparently only slightly
concerned in the proceedings. He
had no legal representation and de-
clined to ask witnesses any questions
or to make any further statement
about the case. The Jury returned
the verdict after being out only a
few minutes.
