Statement by Kirkpatrick.
I have been requested by sev-
eral members of tiie Bailey club
to correot a statement which ap-
peared in my write-up of the
Bailey meeting in yeoterday's
issue. The statement referred to
is the one concerning the "wiping
the names of Charlie Jenkins and
Arch- Grinnan from the rolls of
democracy."
I was assigned the task of re-
porting the Bailey meeting and
attempted to ooverthe event with
the utmost impartiality and fair-
ness. I sat throughout the session
and listened to tne stinging
anathemas hurled at the paper
which I was there to represent
and offered no protest except
when a personal insinuation in-
timated that the meeting of that
night would be unfairly reported.
recorded the events as they
transpired and they were so pub-
lished in yesterday's issue of. the
Daily Bulletin. Several members
"'f. the Club who were present at
the meeting took occai-m early
this morning to personally thunk
me for the .impartial manner in
which I reported the meeting.
Sometime . during the day a
member of the Bailey Club wan
sent ta me stating "that I had
-nnde-a mistake in ore statement
I asked him to point it out and he
replied that the meeting did not
pass resolutions to the effect that
they would wipe- the names of
Jenkins and Grinnan from the
mils of demooracy
My exact language in the Bul-
letin of eaterday is as follows:
"In a speech by Chae. Baughman
it was recommended that the
names of Charlie Jenkins and
Arch Grinnan be forever erased
from the rolls of democracy."
The fourth headline of the article
read as follows; "Also decided
to wipe the names of Charlie Jen-
kins and Aroh Grinnan from the
rolla of democracy"
Mr. Baughman offered a reso-
lution to which was attached the
statement concerning the political
effacement of Jenkins and Grin-
nan. The sentence was hardly
out of his mouth until it was
greeted with the most vociferous

applause. When the resolution
was re-stated the portion con-
cerning Jenkius and Grinnan was
for some reason omitted. J. O.
Woodward of Coleman was en-
dorsed as a oandidate to succeed
Grinnan and nearly every speak
erofthe evening took occasion
to speaK oi tne coming doom oi
Mr. Jenkins who had voted
against Bailey.
Now I did not assert that reso-
lutions were passed to the effect
that Jenkins and Grinnan would
be shelved. I reported exactly
what occurred and what was said.
as for the headline which stated
that "it was also decided." If
any member of the Bailey Club
who was present at the meeting
will state to me that it was not
discussed virtua41y understood
and agreed in that meeting that
Charlie Jenkins aid Aroh Grih'
nan were to be everlastingly
-doomed to political exile then!
will admit that 1 made an erron-
eous a atement an J that I am
incupaole of ascertaining the true
facts from the. events transpiring
and the' talk indulged in at a
Bailey meeting.

which each member spoke that
nigh: and from my knowledge of
the hih character of most of tho
gentlemen who took part in that
meeting I am loath fo believe. that
a majority of tbm are ready to'
repudiate anything said or done
in that meeting nor do I believe
that they 'will assert that I made
erior.eous statements misunder-
stood or misrepresented a single
motive or intent of that meeting.
