(leww: Circus zooms in on magic, mystery
By Taylor Hobaugh
The stands flood with fans
and the lights dim. Bright
flashes of vibrant color intro-
duce goofy characters.
Flashy costumes and exotic
animals dance through the
ring.
it's the opening of "The
Greatest Show on Earth."'
The Ringling Brothers
Barnum & Bailey circus opens
with an elephant vanishing
into thin air, followed by
countless nerve-racking,
breathtaking, gravity-defying
acts all focusing on the magic
of "Zing, Zang, Zoom!"
Aerial dancers spin through
the air suspended on cloth,
moving like doves.
The clowns' slapstick antics
entertain throughout the show
as Mr. Gravity and his band of
cohorts try to remind circus
performers of the laws of
physics.
Majestic horses prance in
rows, and a gigantic onyx stal-
lion stands straight up and
walks across the ring.
Eleven elephants parade
through the ring linked togeth-
er by trunk and tail, carrying
an equal amount of brightly
colored riders. Thirty-three
performing dogs, some in
tutus, leap through flaming

hoops and play on slides.
Several teams of acrobats
swing through the stadium,
twisting and turning with
grace.
Thirteen roaring tigers jump
over their trainer and dance on
two legs, all for an affection-
ate kiss on the snout.
The crowds gasps of won-
derment prove that this circus
really is "The Greatest Show
on Earth."
"Zing, Zang, Zoom!" will
run through Aug. 8 at
American Airline Center in
Dallas and Aug. 11 - 15 at the
Fort Worth Convention
Center.
