Hardin-Simmons University recognizes
that many students may have attained college-level
competencies in specific areas
- through advanced high school courses or
work-related experiences prior to entering
college. Students are therefore

granted college credit on the basis of their
previous educational experiences.

Simmons University:

semester hours through credit by
examination with a maximum of 14

earned by examination, and those

a student's grade point average.

The College Level Examination
Program of The College Entrance

The College Level Examination Program
is designed to evaluate atypical educational
experiences. The examinations are
divided into the General Examinations
(which cover material so broad in scope
that they are not generally comparable to
courses offered for majors or minors in an
area) and the Subject Examinations.
New students (those who have not
enrolled for any college credit) who score
at or above the 50th percentile of the
freshman norms (as published in the
Score Interpretation Guide of the College
Level Examination Program) may earn
credit through the General Examinations
in mathematics (3 hours), and the natural
sciences (biology, 4 hours; physical
science, 4 hours).
Students may also earn credit through
satisfactory scores (at or above the 50th
percentile based on freshman norms) on
the Subject Examinations relative to certain
courses in the following fields:
accounting, biology, business administration,
chemistry, economics, education,
French, German, history, management,
marketing, mathematics, political science,
psychology, Spanish, sociology, and English.
To be awarded credit in English, the
student must also demonstrate writing
proficiency at B-level or above on the
optional essay.
