NOT
SURPRISED
AT RESIGNATION OF D. W. PORTERBOARD
CONTRARY TO THE ABILENE REPORTER NEWS headline, school officials were not surprised
at the resignation of principal, D. W. Porter.
It was told to school officials several months ago that most Woodson Jr.-Sr.
High School teachers felt that they were not being assigned definite positions--so
that they, the teachers, might become discouraged, resign, and leave Abilene.
More specifically, several weeks ago the board was told of its injustice in regards
to Porter not being given an assignment as late as three (3) days before ad-.
rLnistrators were to begin work. At that time, the citizens who brought the matter
-o the board were told that Porter was satisfied with only being assured that "he
rould be placed." They ignored the citizens' inside information on the issue.
Contrary to the belief of some Abilenians, Porter was not offered a definite
)osition in the Abilene Public Schools before he signed a contract for a DEFINITE
OSITION elsewhere.
PORTER WAS OFFERED A DEFINITE POSITION AFTER HE WAS FORCED, by conscience, TO
IGN A CONTRACT FOR A DEFINITE POSITION OUT OF THE CITY.
Abilene has goofed again and forced a well-qualified person to give his con"ibution
