TEACHER'S CERTIFICATE
The present laws of Texas provide for the certification of students
of Abilene Christian College along with those of other similar institutions
on the following terms:
1. Age Requirement.-An applicant to be eligible for any certificate
must be at least eighteen years of age at the time the certificate
is to be issued.
2. Four Year Elementary.-Upon completion of thirty semester
hours of college work, including history 320 (government), six semester
hours in education and six semester hours in English, an elementary
certificate valid for four years may be issued. This certificate
entitles the holder to teach in grades one to seven, inclusive.
3. Six Year Elementary.- Upon completion of sixty semester
hours of college work, including history 320 and twelve semester
hours in education, an elementary certificate valid for six years may
be issued. This certificate becomes permanent after five years of
successful teaching. The holder is entitled to teach in all elementary
grades and also in high school grades of third class and unclassified
high schools.
4. Two Year High School.-Upon completion of thirty semester
hours of college work, including history 320, six semester hours in
education and six semester hours in English a high school certificate
valid for two years may be issued. This certificate entitles the holder
to teach in the elementary grades and in the high school grades of
third class and unclassified high schools only.
5. Four Year High School.-Upon completion of sixty semester
hours of college work, including history 320 and twelve semester hours
in education, six of which must bear upon high school teaching, a
high school certificate valid for four years may be issued. This
certificate entitles the holder to teach in all high schools and all
elementary schools in Texas.
6. Six Year High School.-Upon completion of ninety semester
hours of college work including history 320 and eighteen semester
hours in education, six of which must bear upon high school teaching,
three of which must be in practice teaching, a high school certificate
valid for six years may be issued. Holders of this certificate may
teach in any elementary or any high school grade.
7. Permanent High School.-Upon completion of four years of
college work leading to a degree, provided that this work includes
history 320, twenty-four semester hours in education, six of which
shall bear on high school teaching and six of which shall consist of
the study of methods, observation of methods and practice teaching, a
permanent high school certificate may be issued.
8. Any person holding a B. A. degree and who has not had twentyfour
semester hours in education, but who has completed twelve
semester hours in education, six of which bear upon high school
teaching, and who has had three years (twenty-seven months) of
successful teaching experience subsequent to taking the degree, shall
be entitled to receive from the State Department of Education a
permanent high school certificate, valid anywhere in the State.
