Nature Study 302.-A survey course correlating astronomy, physics,
chemistry, geology, and physiography.
These courses are designed to meet the needs of teachers being
trained to teach in the first seven grades of the Texas public schools.
BIOLOGY
310.-Botany. Representative structures and functions of seed
plants with a general survey of the plant kingdom.
340.-Sanitation. The facts of scientific health knowledge with
their application to the daily life and habits of the indivdual. Causes
and preventions of contagious diseases included.
360.-Human Physiology. An advanced course in the study of the
human body. Prerequisite: At least three hours of college biology,
preferably Biology 340.
FIELD COURSES AT THORP SPRING, TEXAS
The third summer session of field courses in biology will be conducted
at Thorp Spring, Texas, from June 2, to July 12. Miss Elishia
D. Walker, Head of the Department of Biology of Abilene Christian
College, will be in charge.
RESIDENCE CREDIT
Each course counts three semester hours residence credit in laboratory
science toward a bachelor's degree, or to meet the science requirements
for a certificate, or for extension of certificates.
COURSES OFFERED
The courses offered will be the two most in demand from the following
list. Botany (Biology 310); Systematic Botany, or Taxonomy,
(Biology 392); Nature Study, (Biology 300); Sanitation, (Biology
340). Systematic Botony is open only to students who have had a
beginning course in Botany.
EQUIPMENT
There will be a comfortable laboratory and adequate equipment for
all courses offered. Tuition and fees are the same as for biology
courses in residence on the campus in Abilene.
BOARD AND ROOM
Students may obtain excellent board and comfortable rooms at reasonable
cost in the Recreational Camp in Thorp Spring. Light housekeeping
rooms are also available.
The ideal way to study plants and nature in general is in the out of
doors where there is an abundance of plant and animal life. Thorp
Spring and vicinity affords excellent opportunities for biological work,
especially for a study of life in the streams, insects, birds, trees, and
wild flowers. It is an ideal place to combine rest and recreation with
pleasant study.
