8 0 ABILENE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE GRADUATE SCHOOL
Master of Arts in Biblical and Patristic Greek, the undergraduate requisites
for the B.A. degree in Greek are required. Prerequisites for the M.R.E.
and S.T.B. degrees are outlined in the Department of Bible section of this
catalog.
b. For a graduate minor or supporting fields, an applicant must have
the prerequisites required for particular courses and his course selections
must be approved by the department concerned.
c. Courses open to graduates only, whether in major, minor, or supporting
fields, must be preceded by at least six semester hours of advanced
work in the field.
d. Any department may, with the approval of the Graduate Council,
require additional prerequisites for either a major or a minor.
e. A limited amount of required background work may be completed
after admission to graduate study, but it must be completed as soon thereafter
as practicable.
4. Numbering of Courses
a. The four-digit numbering system may be interpreted as follows: The
first digit designates course level, the second digit designates the semester
hour credit value, and the last two digits distinguish between courses. 1000courses
are for freshmen, 2000-courses are for sophomores, 3000-courses
are for juniors, and 4000-courses are for seniors.
Junior and senior courses approved for graduate credit are included in
this catalog as 5000-courses. When a graduate student enrolls in such a
course, he will be required to do research projects and to demonstrate higher
quality work than is expected of undergraduate members of the class.
6000-courses are open to graduate students only.
b. Of the hours required for a graduate degree at least one-half must
be in courses open to graduates only.
5. Transfer of Credits
There is no automatic transfer of credits earned in another institution,
but in general, six semester hours of approved graduate work completed in
another accredited graduate school may be accepted for credit toward a
master's degree. Considerably more hours may be transferred toward the
M.R.E. or S.T.B. degrees.
6. Extension Credit
A maximum of six semester hours may be earned in extension work, if
approved in advance by the Graduate Council. (Not more than nine hours
may be presented in transfer and extension combined.)
7. Correspondence Credit
Graduate credit is not granted for courses taken by correspondence.
8. Amount of Work Which May Be Taken
During the long session a normal load for one semester is 12-15 semester
hours. During a summer term of five weeks a student may enroll for not
more than six hours. A combination of graduate and undergraduate hours
