prol)lems. The work during the first half year w-ill 1 tcai particularly
with the theory of the science in its historical alld present
development; this is intended to prepare the student for the discussion
during the second term of subjects connected with production,
distribution and consumption of wealtli; tllese discussions
are held with special reference to the questions of -wages, profits,
trade unions, money, interests, usury laws, and the systems of
taxation and of finance. Particular attention will be given to the
exemplification in these doctrines in the municipal laws of the
United States. )uring the Post graduate year this same method
w ill be pursued on a more advanced scale; the elementary and
basic principles of Sociology will receive discussion in connection
with the more advancedi examination of philosophical doctrines
and their attempted application.
Philosophy.
In Philosophy we offer four courses, the first historical and the
others dealing with the practical application of its truths. During
the first half of the Senior year, by lectures and text books, the
instructor will give a concise but broad view over the whole history
of the science; the materialistic and idealistic aystems of the
Greeks, exemplified particularly by Aristotle and Plato, the Epicurean
and Stoic philosophies of the Romans, the reaction in
England in the eighteenth century, followed by the German adaptation
and application, will be carefully studied, and their results
upon their present notions briefly elucidated. During the second
term several of the more modern philosophies will be discg.- d,
