Carnegie Library. College students have free access to the
Carnegie Library, which is located only three blocks from the
Administration Building. Courteous attendants are ready to lend
every assistance to the College students in their work.
Laboratories. The biology, chemistry, and physics laboratories
are located in the Science Hall on Center Avenue. The laboratories
are equipped with ample apparatus and supplies for the usual
college courses. Equipment is added as needed. An effort is made
to offer a wide range of work in physics and biology. Students
may major in chemistry and home economics. Howard Payne College
science courses carry a credit of four semester hours. They are
accepted by medical colleges under the standards of the American
Medical Association.
The reading laboratory is located in the main building. Students
registering for the regular classes in reading in Howard
Payne College are trained in the diagnostic and remedial procedures
of the Ophthalmograph, Metronoscope, Telebinocular, and
Audiometer as a part of their laboratory experience. All students on
the campus and all teachers from neighboring schools are urged to
avail themselves of the opportunities presented by the laboratory in
the field of diagnostic testing with instruments and comprehensive
standardized tests. Arrangements may be made for competent students
in the reading laboratory to administer a series of practical
screening tests for visual and auditory acuity.
Boenicke Museum. Through the generosity of Mr. Albert
Boenicke, a pioneer citizen of Brown County, Howard Payne College
has come into possession of one of the finest and most complete
collections of natural history and ethnological specimens to
be found in the state. Several hundred mounted specimens along
with hundreds of Indian relics compose the collection.
Dr. C. G. Schurman of Big Spring has recently augmented the
museum with a splendid collection of Indian relics from the upper
Mississippi Valley region.~ V VCNVIV L N V -I N CVYI / V V
