BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
PIANO
PIANO 100-Freshman. Freshman piano includes all major and
minor scales, chords, arpeggios, Czerny, Heller; Bach, two-part inventions;
Haydn, sonatas; selections from Mendelssohn, Schurmann,
and others. Four semester hours.
PIANO 120-Sophomore. Sophomore plano includes octave
technique added to Freshman keyboard drills. Bach, French suites
and three-part inventions; Mozart and Haydn sonatas; easier Beethoven
sonatas; easier Chopin compositions, and modern works. Four
semester hours.
PIANO 200-Junior. Technical examination is given in keyboard
facility. Clementi, Gradus and Parnassum; compositions by
Bach, Beethovan, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, and others are studied.
Four semester hours.
PIANO 220-Senior. Bach, Preludes and Fugues; the more difficult
sonatas of Beethoven; Chopin, etudes, scherzos, polonaises;
Liszt, etudes, rhapsodies; Brahms, waltzes, scherzos; modern compositions
and concertos are included in senior piano. Four semester
hours.
NON-PERFORMERS COURSE
PIANO-VOICE. A course in private piano and voice study may
be taken to accommodate students whose preparation has been insufficient
or whose work is unsatisfactory for entrance to the Freshman
year. The time for completion of each grade depends on the
ability and application of the student. Credit will be given as usual
but will be known as non-performer's credit.
ORGAN
Before entering these courses, students must have as prerequisite
