DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND PHYSICAL
EDUCATION
The fields of health and physical education are related in so
far as physical education contributes to health. They are not to
be confused as synonymous terms. The physical educator is
interested in knowing the anatomy, physiology and hygiene of
the organs of the body since this knowledge gives his work a
scientific basis.
The purpose of the Department of Health and Physical
Education is to offer each student an opportunity to participate
in wholesome vigorous activities suited to individual needs and
interests, for the development of social relationships and to help
produce more abundant health. It also offers an opportunity of
acquiring knowledge and skills which may be used as recreational
pursuits or use of leisure time.
A major in Health and Physical Education is offered in order
to prepare teachers of Health and Physical Education for the
public schools. There are other opportunities for those interested
in this field, for churches and organizations.
