JEFF T. GILBREATH, 1901
inMrs. Sally Murphy Gilbreath and family eat Jeff T. Gilbreath was born July 3, 1879 at Columbia, Tennessee.
His wife, Sally Murphy Gilbreath, was born November 11, 1880
near Columbia, Tennessee. They were married and then moved
to Texas in 1901.
Their first child, Jewell, was born nine miles southwest of HereMr.N-
_ ford in 1902. Mr. Gilbreath remembered that in 1904 lanl here
was selling for $4.00 per acre; in 1905 land was selling for $10.00
per acre because of a good thirty-nine bushel wheat crop. In 1905
of their home arla DimMr. Gilbreath bought a tract of land south of Dimmitt and in 1919
he moved his family to Hereford. He built a lovely brick house
two miles south and west of Hereford. He and Mrs. Gilbreath were
aood parent s and their home was filled with friends of the eight
New1 f-Ct Ve ico -an Mrs. R CsA. Person (is Agnes) of =mrllo
children. There was always room for another guest.
Mr. Gilbreath was a member of the First Christian Church and
served on the Boar d of Trustees for the Hereford School District
from 1922 to 1924. Sally Murphy Gilbreath died January 14, 1925.
Mr. Gilbreath later married Ruby Shirley Gilbreath. Jeff Gilbreath
died Febraury 11, 1964.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbreath and five of the older children in front
of their home near Dimmitt. This house still stands on the road The children of Jeff and Sally Gilbreath are: Mrs. L. H. Rhodes
t .he Dimmitt Country Club. (Jewell) of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Mrs. J. L. Woodford (Eunice)
of Hereford; Mrs. J. M. Posey (Lucille) of Hereford; Woodrow of
Hereford; J. C. of Dimmitt; Mrs. J. E. Kirby (Sally) of Las Cruces,
New Mexico and Mrs. R. A. Peterson (Lois Agnes) of Amarillo.
The sons are good farmers and ranchers and successful in their
own right. The daughters are good housewives and participate in
many activities in their communities. The Gilbreath children have
continued to develop their responsibility to the people of their
community and build a better place for all to live as their parents
did before them.
The Gilbreath family on Mr. Gilbreath's 56th
birthday. His family had a birthday party for
him each year from 1945 until his death in
1964.
