LOCAL NEWS
Frisky Horses.—A short time ago
some of the horse traders who have
been coming to this city, introduced
some kind of a preparation called
"high-life," or "hot drops." A little
of it dropped on a horses back or tail
will make the oldest plug buck and
frisk about like the wildest untamed
steed of the prairies The past few
nights while Dr. Welsh, the tooth-
puller, was holding forth on the
courthouse square, some person or
persons have been going amoDg the
crowd distributing this stuff on
horses which darkeys rode in from
the country. One or two deputy
sheriffs, constable Boyd and the po-
lice have been trying to find out the
guilty party, but so far have failed.
On Thursday night about fifteen
horses got to bucking and charging
around in the crowd to the imminent
danger of pedestrians, who were
packed around them as thick as
Sardines in a box and couldn't make
way for them.
Brown's Iron Bitters is a spe-
cific in all cases of swamp fever,
intermittent fever, and malaria of
any name. Low marshy groupd,
stagnant pools of water, decaying
vegetable iifattor, changes of oli
mate while suffering from genert.1
debility, all produce malaria.
Brown's Iron Bitters cures all
forms. Don't Use quinine. It
create^ constipation, and produces
headache and not infrequently
rheumatism and neuralgia; Brown's
Iron Bitters nevor does. It cures
them.
Katie Putnam has written to Man-
ager Simon asking for a date at the
opera house on the 11th, and he has
also received one from the manager
of Myra Goodwyn, wanting a date
on the 14th. He was compelled to
turn both of them off, as the Jennie
Holman company has the opera
house engaged for the entire week.
This is to be much regretted. Both
are great favorites here. Katie Put-
nam is an especial favorite with the
Brenham firemen.
The untortunate man who was
picked up west of town in a demen-
ted and starving condition some
time ago is still in the county jail, a
mere skeleton and not expected to
live. On Friday Judge Kirk received
a letter from Mrs. J. E. Herndon,
of El Paso, a boarding-house keeper^
with whom he boarded. She oays
his name is Jim White, and a carpen-
ter by trade. His brother-carpen
ters made up a collection and bought
him a ticket to Lampasas, to which
place his trunk was checked. His
father is supposed to be living in
East Tennessee.

You have heard your frionds neighbors
talking about it. You may yourself be one
