f When Popple was Informed that his
Bfaft had. not been honore<l he seem-
pd for a flme to be bereft of his sen-
'sea, and drank very heavily, saying at
times: “My one friend who should
have stayed by me has forsaken me.”
On July 6th he fell in the gutter on
Customhouse street and dislocated his
shoulder and injured himself Inter-
nally. Some time after midnight on
the night of the 5tb, Heyl had closed
his place of business and was going
home when he heard a call for help.
He found poor, blind Popple lying in
the gutter absolutely helpless, and
with the assistance of his bar-tender,
carried him to his room. The next
morning he had Poppie sent to the
Charity Hospital In a carriage. From
that time, (July 6th) until about two
weeks before he died Heyl went to
see him about once a week. PoppTe
died on the 6th of September. About
September 18th Heyl made anoadj*
visit to the hospital, and was very
much shocked to learn that Ponple
had been dead and blrled for almost
two weeks.
I visited the Charity Hospital to see
what data ! could get there. The
records show that Popple was admit-
ted on July 6th, to the surgical ward*
where bis wounds and bruises were
treated. He gave his birthplace as
New York snd bis Occupation as a
fisherman and his age 64 years.

The cotton mill committee met yes-
terday afternoon In the offlee of Hart
ft Sholant. Nothing of importance
was accomplished. They Ulked the
matter over, but did not form any
plan for action. It was suggested,
however, that the committee invite
all the business men of the city, large
and hid all, to. meet them and discues
the matter. It Is th. plan of the pro-
jectors to get as many people as pos-
uible to take stock in the enterprUe,
that It might create a general iuterevt.
