Joe Pechal Returns
To Cafe Business
Joe Pechal frequently re-
ferred to as "Bapa" Joe re-
turned to the cafe business this
week after a little more than
(two yeara retirement from the
business
For a number of years he
was owner and manager of the
Bartlett Cafe but in August
1952 he sold the cafe to Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Wiederspahn and
retired. This week he purchased
the cafe Liack from the Wieder-
spahns and is again managing
the business.
Mr. Wiederspahn is operating
the Wiederspahn Magnolia Sta-
tion on South Evie Street a
business which he prefers to
the cafe busi'ness.

Attendance was hurt by the
Thanksgiving holiday but nev-

Accident Claims
Life Of Sister
Of D. A. Swope
A tragic accident Thanksgiv-
ing morning claimed the life of
Mrs. Ila Swope Ray sister of
D. A. Swope cf Bartlett and
her two daughters and her sort
wa3 seriously injured.
The accident a car-train col-
lision occured near the north-
west city limits of Austin. High-
way Patrol Capt. E. K. Brown-
ing said the car eastbound
struck the front corner of thet
engine of the southbound
freight. The accident occurred
about 7:30 a. m. There were?

The car driver was facing!
the morning sun as the car
moved down hill toward the
crossing und it is believed that
he was blinded by the sun.
Killed in the acciident were
Mrs. Ray 50; Shirley Nan Ray
19; and Rebecca Ray about 13
all of Burnet.
The lone survivor in the car
waa Marine Sgt. Tom Ray. 28
who had recently returned homo
on leave from duty in the far
east. He suffered a compound
fracture of the left lower leg
cuts and bruises.
