In an effort to halt the spread
of polio, Gov. Beauford Jester
sent out Saturday emergency
clean-up appeals to 254 county
judges and 484 Texas mayors.
The Governor urged state-wide
immediate plans for community,
home and personal sanitation. He
said that 135 polio cases had been
reported in Texas this year.
That’s more than were ever re-
corded before by mid-May, and
almost twice as many cases as
any other state has had this year.
Bogata Lions Club sponsored a
clean-up campaign on April 6-7,
but not satisfied with the results,
are planning another in the near
future, according to Mayor Thed-
ford, who urges all civic organi-
zations and individuals to coop-
erate. The date of the clean-up
has not been set.
