the wrist. She is reported rest-
ing satisfactorily at a Paris hos-

Friends of Gene Mauldin will
be glad to know that he is im-
proving and was able to come
and spent the week end with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. W E.
Mauldin at Cuthand. Mrs. Maul-
din and baby accompanied him.
The two older boys remained with
their grandparents for a longer
visit.

tended open house of the 50th
wedding anniversary of an aunt
and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Wood
West, Sunday at Pecan Gap. Rev.
and Mrs. R. E. Porter were in-
vited guests. Mr. and Mrs. Cody

Mrs. L. H. West, and their dau-
ghter, Janett, remained for a

Fire that broke out in the kit-
chen had damaged the home of
Mr. and Mrs. V. Thedford.
The junior-senior banquet had
been held at the gym with a
dance following at the home of
Miss Aline Kahl.
Frank Tyer had reported twin
mule colts born to a mare he
owned.
Street lights on Main street
had been replaced by larger
bulbs and placed lower on the
light poles.
Heavy Rains Halt
Farm Operations
Farm operations have been
halted for several days in this
area due to rain. An electrical
storm, accompanied by a hard
rain, struck early Sunday morn-
i ing and another early Monday
morning. Total rainfall for the
two day period amounted to 2.23
| inches, this brings the total rain-
i fall for the month to 6 inches.
Fields were badly washed and
crops need to be worked out,
1 however, it was beneficial to
pastures.
An Indiana woman’s husband

Cleo (Tolley) Smith, 29, negro
ex-convict, was given a death
sentence Monday for criminal as-
sault on a 13-year-old schoolgirl
near New Boston April 13.

5 at his home in Whitesboro, fol-
lowing an illness of five months
duration. Funeral service was
