Resigns To Take
La Vega Position
Assistant football coach Jack
Brewer since March 1953 has
announced his resignation ef-
fective March 1.

JACK BREWER
He has accepted the head foot-
ball coaching job at Class AAA
LaVega High School.
Brewer served as assistant
mentor at Borger High Schol two
years under Guy Gardner former
head coach at HPC. For the past
three years he has been assistant
coach in charge of line assign-
ments under Gardner.
Brewer stated that his move
was "because I have wanted a
head coaching job for some time
now. These three years I have
spent at Howard Payne have
been happy ones and I hate to
leave my friends here."
The Brewers have resided at
2303 Fourth SI. Mrs. Brewer will
finish the semester of work at
Howard Payne in Physical Edu-
cation and will teach P.E. at
LaVega next fall.

D. Newman says that an assist-
ant will be named in the near
future to replace Brewer. "We
hate to lo-e the Brewers. They
both have done an outstanding
job here."

Campus Holds
First Meeting
The first meeting of the Glee
Club the newest oujanixation of
the Girls Activities program was
held on Thursday February 9.
Officers were elected and are as
follows: President Dorothy Wil-
liams; Vice-President Floy Nell
Hassell; Secretary and Treasurer
Betty M. Allen; Social Chairman
Joyce Cherry; Reporter Fran
Powell; and Pianist Glenda
Bales.
This organization is made up
of girls who like to sing but are
not music majors or minors. It
will meet in the informal parlor
of the Girls Dorm every Thurs-
day night from 7:00 to 8:00. Dayle
Thomas is directing the Glee
Club. Any girl who would like
to become a member of this or-
ganization should contact Dayle
or plan to attend Thursday night.

Sadie Hawkins Week Declared By
Student Council As March 5 - 9
Do you like to dress like a
bum? Well you are going to have
an opportunity to March 5-9 if
nothing drastic happens!
You see the Student Council
has declared this Sadie Hawkins
Week. If you are unfamiliar with
the term you won't be by March
10.
The Student Council met Feb.
9 and declared the week of March
5-9 to be the annual SHW. Presi-
dent of the group Eddie Rogers
opened the meeting for discuss-
ion after a brief business agenda.
The minutes were read -by Mar-
lene Raper the secretary of the
council and the financial report
was given by Don Shepard.
Three new class presidents
were welcomed into the council:
junior class Cecil Elkins; sopho-
more Rovce Denton; and fresh-
man Val Nance.
Other members piesent includ-
ed Ann Weedon vice president;
Carol Muskett sophomore repre
sentative; awl Bob Poynor rep-
l esc nlative of the fish.

Revival Services To Be
Held At Central Baptist
Fred Cherry lay evangelist
from Oklahoma City will be the
speaker for the revival services
to be held at the Central Baptist
Church corner of Second Street
and Bri'dy Avenue Febiuary 19-
20. Cherry was a star football
player for the University of Ok-
lahoma and majored in 'petrol
eum engineering. At the present
time he is a deacon in the Bap-
tist Church.
The services are to be at 7:30
p. m. each evening. Rev. O. E.
Short is the pastor.
A good Disposition is more
valuable than gold; for the latter
is the gift of fortune but the
former is the dower of nature.

Cecil Elkins as chairman of the
Sheriff's committee. The duty of
this committee is to arrest fine
or reprimand any student who
docs not conform to the rules of
the council. All students are urg-
ed to wear at least two tack y
garments for the first day.
The committee for judgement
will be headed by Ann Weedon
and she promised something new
and special. Students will be tried
and probably convicted in Kangy
Court if they do not go along
with the activities. A definite
fine has not been determined
yet.
The publicity chairman for the
event is Marlene Raper and she
will use the Brownwood Bulletin
Mr. Wallace Jones publicity di-
rector for the college and the
Yellow Jacket. Posters will also
be used.
So get prepared for the week
girls and handsome goons bo-
cuuso something new and defi-
nitely different will take place-
when gills start chasing the men.

Attends Chicago
Teachers Meet
Dr. George M. Crubinger as-
sociate professor of Education at
Howard Payne College attended
the National Society of College
Teachers of Education meeting in
Chicago February 1G-18.
General sessions of the meet-
ing were held at the Conrad Hil-
ton Hotel begining Thursday
morning.
Dr. Donald P. Cattrell presi-
dent of Ohio State University was
the presiding officer for the open-
ing sessions.
Dr. Crutsinger left here on
Wednesday and returned Saturday.

Junior Class
Spring Semester officers were
elected at the Junior Class meet-
ing recently.
Cecil Elkins was elected presi-
dent Joyce Cherry vice-president;
Diane Webb secretary;
Frank OBanion pianist; Jerry
Forderhase song leader; Alis
Dickinson treasurer; Nadean
Towery reporter.
Rosemary Quinn was appoint-
ed chairman of the planning com-
mittee for the Jr.-Sr. Banquet.
Alis Dickinson is in charge of
a project of selling sandwiches
to raise moie money for the ban-

pre ident of the Alpha Beta
Sigma Club at the initial meet-
ing of the spring semester held
in the formal parlor of the Girl's
Dorm.
Officers elected to assist Don
are Kitty Parks vice-president;
Floy Nell Hasel secretary: Ilen-
drix Williams treasurer; Nadean
Towery reporter; and Billy Jack
Harris parliamentarian.
Tentative plans for the club
trip to Dallas in March were dis-
cussed and Patsy Lee and Ken-
neth Baker were appointed to
make the arrangements.
New members welcomed into
the club were Wanda Mobley
Jarene Thomas Jean Mungle
Marjorie Piper and Lois Miller.
The next meeting will be a
"42" party in the home of Mrs.
Margery Evans February 21.
Mary Walton Kitty Parks Shir-
ley Pugh and Nadean Towery
were appointed to plan the party.

Basketball Meet
To Be Held Mere
Feb. 24-25 Mar. 2-3
A Regional 11 Boys Basketball
Tournament will be held at the
Hfoward Payne College gymnas-
ium February 24 and 25 1956
while the girls' tournament will
be held March 2 and 3 both be-
ginning at 3:00 p. m.
Dr. Z. T. Huff Region II di-
rector stated that Bennie Wil-
liams will be the tournament di-
rector. The assistant directors
will be Glen Whitis for the boys
and Mrs. Jack Brewer for the
girls.
Eight teams will be represent-
ed for both boys and girls.
A committee meeting was held
Tuesday Feb. 14 in Dr. Huff's
office concerning the Regional II
meet. Mr. L. C. Cash county sup-
erintendent of the Baird Schools
Harley Black superintendent of
the Brown County schools and
John Culewll superintendent of
the Breckenridge schools and Dr.
Huff made up the Regional Ex-
ecutive Committee of which Dr.
Huff is chairman.
A discussion of the basketball
tournament the coming spring
events in the region and a draw-
ing for places for the tournament
were the items taken care of the
14th.
Along with Williams as bas-
ketball director Dr. Lauderdale
was appointed chairman for the
literary events and Dr. Held
was appointed chairman for the
one act plays.

For Spring Semester

Nance presided over a call meet
meeting of the freshman Class
February 10 to continue the elec-
tion of spring semester officers.

from Belton was re-elected class
rept rtor. Dolores Mabrey a piano
ma;nr irom Ackerly was selected
as t'ass pianist and Pat Ragsdale
who is also studying music at
IIov arc! Payne was choen as
vox lender for the class. Pat hails
f"on Killcen.
The class voted that the pianist
and song leader write the words
and choose a tune for a freshman
song and present them to the
class.
Other officers for the class are:
Frankie Swinney vice president;
Jerry Ray born secretary; and
Marjorie Piper treasurer.
Johnny Milner
Entertains Sophs
The Sophomore Class was en-
tertained at their last meeting
February 10 by Johnny Milner
whesang and played his guitar.
After the program the class
made plans for the chapel period
the following Thursday.
It was also announced that
Sadie Hawkins Week would be
the first week in March and all
Sophomore girls were urged to
get a bonnet in keeping with
the week and with the Brown
County Centennial celebration.
