MAN ON CAMERA:
A Dallas newspaper reported today that police
reserve officers for the suburb of Lancaster have
served as armed bouncers in uniform at illegal
gambling operations in their community.
The Times-Herald said an investigation disclosed
that at least one such officer barely escaped arrest
a week ago when county and state lawmen raided the
Canyon Creek Catering Club. About 100 other persons,
including three nude strippers, also got away.
Forty-one persons were arrested on gaming charges.
Lancaster Police Chief Paul Bond acknowledged
that a reserve officer had been on duty at the club
and said disciplinary action is possible.
Dallas District Attorney Henry Wade said of
the reserved policemen, "They don't have the right
