Vice President General Craig Uncapher invited the group to the South Central District meeting on
April 25th in Jefferson City, Missouri. He has registration forms for those who can go. President
Yeilding sent a sheet around for people to sign if they think they can go. Joe reminded the group that
if you go as a delegate, you can take it off of your income tax. Also Billy Hightower is running for
Vice President General so we need to give him our support. Compatriot Hill is Secretary of the South
Central District.
President Yeilding handed out the committee assignments for this year. He asked that the group
look them over and then he will ask for approval. There were various corrections made concerning the
correct chapter affiliations. Motion to approve the appointments was made seconded and passed.
President Yeilding handed out his Together He Can goals which he discussed in his speech last
night. They will also be published in the newsletter. He believes these are all clearly measurable and
attainable during this year, except maybe one. He will appreciate our cooperation in attaining these
goals this year.
Compatriot Bill Hightower spoke to the board about 'his plans and goals as Chairman of the
Membership Committee, and asked for everyone's cooperation.
President Yeilding pointed out that our new budget has. included $500 for new chapter formation.
In the past the money to help start a new chapter came from the sponsoring chapter. Now we have some
money to help those chapters who can't afford the $200 called for in the long range plan.
He also encouraged everyone to attend the National Congress and sent around a sign-up sheet. He
would like to see us have our maximum number allowable at the meeting, which is about 55 delegates. We
usually have about half that number.
President Yeilding asked for a modification of the Outstanding Chapter scoring sheet. He has
added item 15, which is chapter points for forming a new chapter-150 points per chapter. James Head
suggested that formation of CAR chapter be added for 50 points as item 16. Motion was made and seconded
to add items 15 and 16 to the scoring sheet. Motion passed.
President Yeilding called on C.R. Harrington in his capacity as Chairman of the Convention
Planning Committee to talk about the TXSSAR Annual Meeting in Brownsville in 1993.
Compatriot Harrington says they are looking forward to hosting the convention . They have a lot
of plans and activities in store for us.
President Yeilding is interested in knowing if we can get involved in the California project by
advertising a number for inquiries for new members. The California Society says that 63% of their new
members comes from this source. Compatriot Hill suggested that we study this and bring it to the next
board meeting. Chancellor Wright moved that the idea be referred to the Public Relations Committee and
that they come back with a recommendation at the next Board of Managers Meeting. Motion seconded and
passed.
Motion made and seconded that we present Gloria Martin with the Martha Washington Medal at the
August Board Meeting for all of her work connected with this meeting. Motion seconded and passed.
Chancellor Wright points out that this Board needs to ratify and confirm the naming of the two
members as Life Members Emeritus, because the bylaws require this to be done at a Board Meeting, not the
annual meeting. Motion made to ratify and confirm the Life Memberships Emeritus of the two men named at
the annual meeting session of March 14th. Motion seconded and passed.
James Head suggests a proposed award for teachers who stress American History. He will bring a
suggestion to the August Board Meeting.
The next meeting will be in Waco on August 7th and 8th. Our Fall Board Meeting will be in
College Station on November 13th and 14th, and the Annual Meeting will be in Brownsville on March 12th &
13th , 1993.
Meeting adjourned at 11:00 a.m.
