APOLLO 11 & 12
At the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston,
the Apollo 12 astronauts today spent their first
full day in quarantine...the first of 11 before
they are released on December 10th.
Astronauts Pete Conrad, Alan Bean, and Dick
Gordon slept late and then watched football on
television.Scientists at the Space Center say preliminary
studies of rocks brought back by Apollo 12 indicatethe moon may be much more complex than first believed,
and that a great deal more data -- from a variety
of sites on the moon -- will be nee d.
In Moscow, an estimated 7,000 ussians were
waiting to get in to see a moon rock returned by
the Apollo 1. crew. The plate-glass front door of
the exhibit booth where a movie of the mission was
being shown was smashed by the anxious crowd. The
exhibit director said: "They came in like a herd."
