A new power-plant for public transporation is being
previewed in Detroit today. Ford Motor Company and
Continental Trailways revealed a gas, turbine-poweredpassenger bus.
The prototype system -- featuring
Ford's 707 gas turbine engine, and a regular
production Trailways Silver Eagle bus -- is one of
several between Ford and other companies to develop
uses for the engine.
BUS TRAVELING,PASS-BY The experimental unit will be driven to Dallas this
week-end to be put into regular passenger service in
the bus company's nationwide system later this year.
Similar Ford turbine engines have been used for more
than a year in a truck fleet, hauling freight between
company plants in Michigan and Ohio. The engine's
quiet, vibration-free operation makes it well-suitedfor passenger runs.
Other advantages are said to
be the engine's power, smaller size, and lighter
