Open today as he came in for a share of the first
round lead at Southport, England. Super Mex put
together a 4-under par 69 to reach a tie with Tony
Jacklin, Howie Johnson, and Vicente Fernandez. He's
one shot ahead of a group 1 0illy Casper
and two ahead of a group headed by Jack Nicklaus.
Elsewhere, Lamar Hunt's pro tennis tour today was
banned by the International Lawn Tennis Federation
beginning in 1972. The Federation charges Hunt's
World Championship Tennis is trying to take over the
game, a charge that Hunt has denied.1'
