President Nixon today signed a bill giving many of the
government's blue-collar workers a 4-percent raise by next
April 30th.Last year..the President vetoed a less generous
pay raise for the 650-thousand workers..claiming it would fuel
the fires of inflation.The raises approved today..become effective
when economic controls are lifted.
Nearly all the dock workers in Great Britain returned to their
Jobs tonight for the first time in a month..ending the threat of
economic chaos.The total cost of the long strike to Britains
economy..has not been calculated as yet.h
