The Special Collections Department collects and preserves rare and unique materials including rare books, oral histories, university archives, historical manuscripts, maps, microfilm, photographs, art and artifacts. The department is located in UNT's Willis Library in the fourth floor Reading Room.

Video recording from The Black Academy of Arts and Letters recorded the 20th annual "Black Music and the Civil Rights Movement" concert "In the Spirit of Hope: There Will Be a Better Day" held at the Myerson symphony on January 19th, 2003. The footage shows masters of ceremonies Michael Hill and Iola Johnson opening the concert featuring Kim Fields and a large gospel choir.

Video recording from The Black Academy of Arts and Letters recorded the 20th annual "Black Music and the Civil Rights Movement" concert "In the Spirit of Hope: There Will Be a Better Day" held at the Myerson symphony on January 19th, 2003. The footage shows the concert featuring Kim Fields and a large gospel choir accompanied by interpretative dancers scattered throughout the concert hall. The tape concludes with closing remarks and flowers being passed out to featured performers.
